My good friend’s moving to Melsungen for work. Where’s that? Can buy property ah?
Melsungen is a small ‘city’ in Germany. Please do not say it’s a town. The people there may not like it. There’s just 13,000 people living there but as per Wikipedia, within this 13,000 people there are 8 billionaires because Melsungen is the headquarter of B. Braun. “The 8 billionaires of the Braun family make Melsungen the city with the most billionaires per capita in the world!.” (Info source: Wikipedia)
Maybe tertiary education for my children could be Germany?
My thought about Germany as a good destination for tertiary education and career? I am open to sending my children to Germany for tertiary education. First choice definitely my own university in Bristol, UK but these days, I am not so sure about UK’s economy. They are no longer part of the European Union and that’s not a plus.
I am also okay if they would like to gain experience with top German companies there and then they could have a head start when they come back to Malaysia when they apply to German companies based in Malaysia.
Was Germany a choice for me long time ago?
Germany was never within the first few choices in my mind just 5 years ago but I think Germany will become a very good choice today and in the near future. It’s open to talents who wants to study there and then work there and then perhaps even gaining a PR there. One main reason? Not enough babies and too many retirees. Shortage of working population is not good for any nation as the working population would have to pay enough tax to support the ones who are no longer working; after retirement.

Coming back to Melsungen, where’s this?
The below shows where Melsungen is. “Melsungen (German pronunciation: [ˈmɛlzʊŋən]) is a small climatic spa town in the Schwalm-Eder district in northern Hesse, Germany. ” (Info source: Wikipedia)
Photos of buildings in Melsungen is right after.

What’s the property price like?
Melsungen is a small town. So, of course the property price will not be like Munich, Frankfurt or even Stuttgart. Here are some listings I found online: Both the properties below are around 12km away from the town of Melsungen. I am unable to find a property for sale inside the town.

Generally the price is considered acceptable for the salaries of the people working there. My friend showed me the salary range of what her company is paying if the staff is based in Melsungen. Statistically, “The average salary in Germany for a full-time employee is €3,830/month, which accumulates to €45,900/year.” Info source: https://www.instarem.com/blog/average-salary-in-germany/
My advice to my friend on buying property?
Melsungen is not a fastgrowing city. It’s not going to suddenly become a fast growing city in the near future. That’s why when we look at properties on sale, there are not a lot of new developments and this explains why it is more prudent to just rent. Perhaps even a room with a friendly family so that she could experience the lifestyle of someone in Melsungen. This helps to determine if this is the life she wants just in case her company wants her to extend her employment in Germany in the future.
I also joked with her that who knows… a German could be her life partner!? Wishing her all the best and definitely would love to listen to all her stories in the future.
