Financial news: What happens when most countries have fewer babies?

If I am a milk powder producer and I produce only baby milk powders, I should be worried about my future maybe 50 years from now? There are definitely enough time to transform into producing milk powder for the seniors too. The number of new babies are declining throughout the world. There are many reasons but I think the biggest factor would be that people have so many distractions in the world today versus just going home early everyday and lights off by 930pm daily. People are working longer hours. Couples want more time for themselves. Cost of living is increasing especially the cost of raising kids. Travelling is also far easier when alone or as a couple versus as a family of 3 or 4.

Financial news: If I am hungry, I could not continue working lah

If there are businesses who needs to hire interns but could not afford to pay an intern, there are just 2 conclusions. First one is that the business is NOT big enough to hire an intern yet. So the business owner just need to work faster, work more hours, work better and do all of the work by himself / herself. Second one is that this business is just NOT sincere and is looking to take advantage of the situation. Decide on which one and then take appropriate actions.

Personal Finance 101: Nope, EVs do not save you money. Get serious!

Over 10 years ago, my wife told me about her colleague who shared that he bought a hybrid car because he wanted to save on fuel. It could be driven like many hundreds of km and the cost to pump petrol is super low. I laughed. Please note that we can never save enough from petrol costs in order to make these hybrids become cost-effective to our expenses yeah. Hybrid cars of the same size versus petrol cars are usually double or higher the price of a similarly sized car. Let’s just do a simple calculation as below.

Financial news: Thou shall not run away from tax

Malaysia’s Income Tax Act says that the administrator or next-of-kin of the deceased persons have to settle their tax areears. What this tells us is that no one could escape tax, even if the person has left this world. This Act acts to ensure the person does not delay paying the tax and then when the person dies, the government of the day would ave to write this off. Just need to note that if the person has no financial ability to pay, the government would have no choice but to write it off. Think… who will have to pay for this if the government decides to write it off?

Financial news: Countries with decreased housing prices. Does this mean it’s easier for the people to buy a property?

It’s quite funny, really. When we think prices are moving up, we buy. It does not matter who made us think so. We may also not have any idea if we are already buying at the peak but it will only matter later. The worry is not being able to get anything if we do not buy now. I have friends who bought into the craze of a certain area many years ago and until today, that same little unit is still not fetching the rental which she thought she would. Perhaps just need to wait a little longer.
