Malaysia My Second Home (MM2H). Latest numbers? Still attractive? 3 Major Reasons.

Do google those countries which are said to have lower cost of living than Malaysia. I do not wish to debate further in this article. In fact if cheapest is the thing you are after, perhaps just go to the cheapest country. There are definitely cheaper countries, I am sure. Plus the fact that the terms and conditions can even be more loose than Malaysia’s. Maybe no property purchase is needed… Maybe no fixed deposit is required… However, if Malaysia is one of the considerations, take a look at the current numbers as below.

Thailand has more tourists than Malaysia. Big concern?

Before the arrival of Covid-19, Malaysia has these numbers when it comes to tourism. “A total of 26,100,784 international tourists visited Malaysia in 2019 compared to 25,832,354 in 2018. Meanwhile, tourist expenditure in 2019 rose by 2.4% to RM86. 1 billion compared to RM84.” Source: tourism.gov.my. We know, tourist numbers fell tremendously when Covid arrived in all countries. So, has the numbers recovered already for Malaysia? Are we again earning huge tourism revenues?

Every US$10 spent, US$1 belongs to tourism in 2024!

I love to travel. I long for the days when I could choose when to travel and could take up AirAsia’s free tickets offer anytime they offer it. Or whichever airline has special price but the dates are non holidays o0r low season dates. Traveling broadens the mind and helps us to understand… the property market even better! Haha. Just the other day, I was in Los Angeles, I wrote this article about their property price. Read here: Which is your preference? Higher food prices or higher property price?,

Sabah-MM2H is now under Sabah state government. What are the changes?

My wish is for MM2H to do well. Whether it’s federal government’s MM2H or the Sarawak MM2H or the Sabah MM2H programs. There were some ‘miscommunication’ between the Minister of Tourism, Arts and Culture and Sabah’s Minister of Tourism, Culture and Environment about MM2H some time back. For the sake of Sabah’s MM2H programme, I think it’s best to let the state handle it themselves as they are nearer to the ground. The foreigners are also moving into Sabah state anyway, right?

MM2H Malaysia vs other ‘better’ choices?

I am a firm believer that when it comes to foreigners thinking of a great place to spend their time post-retirement, Malaysia is an amazing choice. I am not an employee of any MM2H agency and there are also no links within this article to any MM2H agency too. Reason for writing is because there are too many ‘amazing’ people out there who kept saying other countries’ MM2H equivalent is better. Dear Sir / Madam, if they are better, you just go there loh… The only reason why you are still shouting is simply because it’s comparable but you want it to be so easy so that you can sell MM2H easier.

MM2H: Comparisons between MM2H vs Sarawak MM2H and Sabah MM2H

If someone really wants to retire and just enjoy a pretty decent quality of life, I think Malaysia is a good choice. We are friendly, our food is super tasty (no need claim this and that like one country) and whether it’s nature or shopping or a relaxing small town visit every weekend, Malaysia has it all. Thus, MM2H or Sarawak MM2H or Sabah MM2H may be something worthwhile taking a more closer look since it seems that there are changes not too long ago.

Sabah-Malaysia My Second Home (Sabah-MM2H) will have its own version

Who’s actually in charge when it comes to the Sabah-MM2H programme? Is it the Motac minister Datuk Seri Tiong King Sing or is it Sabah’s Tourism, Culture and Environment Minister Datuk Christine Liew? The former is a federal minister and the latter would be a state minister. It seems that it has now been decided as per reported.
