It’s a huge achievement because Thailand is the top in ASEAN when it comes to international tourists. Perhaps the reason is because there are now ever more connections and it’s thus easier and probably cheaper to fly here these days. Minister of Tourism, Arts and Culture Datuk Seri Tiong King Sing said that Malaysia has over 3,343 international flights every week. Thus, 674,000 passengers could come into Malaysia. However, there’s this one which we cannot escape from if we are going up to the Genting Theme Park in the future. Yes, it’s the toll to go up to the top of Genting Highlands. These days there are so many new developments in Genting Highlands and I think the toll is also in anticipation of more cars going up, more maintenance needed and so this is considered a step done in advance versus later yeah.
In January this year, I left my children with my brother in Penang and flew to Hong Kong followed by Fukuoka with my wife. She did not know it’s Hong Kong until we arrived at the Penang International Airport. She did not know about Fukuoka until one day before we left Hong Kong! Haha. It was a surprise trip but I did advise her on clothes to bring and also her passport. HK Express is a low cost airline yeah. It’s Cathay Pacific’s wholly owned low-cost subsidiary.
When tourists come, if they stay in hotel, we would need more hotels. Hotels would need more workers. Laundry service would need more people. F&B outlets would need more people. If they stay in AirBnB, more owners would have more money. More money means they could spend more. When they spend more, the vendors providing the service / product must hire people. When more tourists come, more people would have jobs and more people would spend money. This is why success in attracting more international tourists will have multiplier effect to the economy.
Recently, there was a report which was everywhere saying that Malaysians spend RM1,200 per month on dining out. So, I calculated what I spend and well… it’s quite true! Haha. Why do I say so? Plus what happens if we could save 50 percent of what we spend on food every day for just one year? Yes, travel to Japan!
