Did you know we benefit with 674,000 passengers coming to Malaysia every week?

Thailand used to have the biggest number of international travelers into ASEAN

I know Malaysia’s number of tourists for 2025 has exceeded that of Thailand. Read here for the article: Are we ahead of Thailand already for international arrivals? Briefly, yes.

It’s a huge achievement because Thailand is the top in ASEAN when it comes to international tourists. Perhaps the reason is because there are now ever more connections and it’s thus easier and probably cheaper to fly here these days. Minister of Tourism, Arts and Culture Datuk Seri Tiong King Sing said that Malaysia has over 3,343 international flights every week. Thus, 674,000 passengers could come into Malaysia. This is really a wow. Read on for more details:

Article in malaymail.com Malaysia now has direct flight connectivity to 126 cities across 37 countries and regions, with more than 3,343 international flights bringing up to 674,000 passengers into 13 gateway cities each week, said Minister of Tourism, Arts and Culture Datuk Seri Tiong King Sing.

In a Facebook post, Tiong said Asean remains Malaysia’s largest source market, accounting for 1,799 direct international flights weekly. An additional 37 transit flights via Bali, Phuket and Singapore bring the total number of Asean-related flights to 1,836 per week.

“Indonesia, Singapore and Thailand record the highest number of weekly flights to Malaysia, with 679, 470 and 331 flights, respectively,” he said. Article in malaymail.com

More passengers means more money will be spent in Malaysia

From hotels to food to souvenirs to GRAB fares and to many other spendings, every tourist here for a week would have already helped to increase the earnings of many people. Plus if there are so much need for hotels, then more has to be built. If there are also a lot more need for accommodation, then maybe more owners may convert their units to short term stay too. It can make the whole industry become more vibrant too which is a positive since there has not been that many good news from the property market in 2025.

Are you working in the hotel industry? Maybe you can realize your worth is getting higher. Are you driving GRAB? Maybe you have noticed more passengers who are non-Malaysians. Are you one of those popular food hotspots? Maybe it’s time to hire more people or maybe rent more units to expand the business too. Let’s just wish 2026 will be an even better year for all of us. As for travelers, hey, this is definitely a country which you must visit. Malaysia truly Asia. Visiting one country and you can feel the cultures, food and diverse interactions too.
