If world oil price continue to drop, maybe no one will drive into Malaysia and pump our subsidized petrol…

By the way, this article is only aimed at those who drove into Malaysia to pump our subsidized petrol yeah. I know many Thai or Singapore drivers will pump petrol to full tank in their own country and does not even bother to pump any petrol in Malaysia. Think about it, seriously. With a strong Baht, it meant that oil prices will be cheaper. So, the price of petrol, even if there’s no subsidy will be lower.

Oil oversupply means lower petrol prices

If there are signs of higher demand and supply being the same or maybe reduced due to some unforeseen circumstances like war, logistics etc, then oil prices will go up. This will then cause the petrol price at the pumps increase too. For Malaysia, we are lucky because the subsidy given to Malaysians meant that no matter how the oil price moves, the petrol price will remain the same; WAY LOWER than all the countries with borders with us.

The new Saga. 10,000 bookings in 5 days

10,000 bookings is crazy lah. This is not buying vegetables or fish in the morning market yeah. This is minimum RM40,000 lah. Earlier article here: RM40,000 – RM50,000. Repayment per month is just RM450? Just using a similarly priced Saga 1.3 Premium AT for calculation since the actual price is not yet revealed, just the estimated price of RM40,000 – RM50,000.

Just RM450 per month to own the new 1.5 litre Saga?

When my sister bought her very first car, a Proton Saga BLM (photo below), she told me. She told me she bought the blue colored one. She named it ‘small blue’ in Mandarin. The day after, I started to see Proton Saga BLM everywhere. Then I have a thought, maybe I should buy the shares since Proton was selling so many Saga BLMs? I bought a number of shares below RM2 and within less than 12 months, when they announced good set of financials, I sold off those shares at RM4. Yes, handsome profits indeed.

When will you get your first EV (electric vehicle)?

My view is simple. Unless I could not achieve something without it, I would prefer for others to try it first. I am okay for others to show off first. I am perfectly okay for others to queue and get it first while I continue to wait by the sideline and observe. Perhaps one main reason is also because I would prefer for things to settle prior to entering the market and paying the right price for something I need.

Maybe it’s the T10 and not the T15 who will not enjoy the petrol subsidy. Are you in T10?

This is something that will affect the ones who are affected daily, weekly, monthly and maybe even forever. We are talking about the petrol subsidy which is supposed to stop for certain segments of the population mid of 2025. This is where people pumping RON95 will no longer enjoy the RM2.05 per liter price of today but instead will be paying the market price instead. If the oil price goes up, then the petrol price moves up further. It was revealed earlier that the group which will be affected is the T15. Briefly, the top 15 percent of Malaysians where the household income is concerned.

What if subsidy is based on the car we drive and not the salary we earn?

I am someone who believes subsidy has to be targeted and it’s not supposed to be for everyone because there are certainly people who do not need them. They want them but they do not need them. Sorry, I am not talking about the T15 group yeah. I am speaking about the ‘real’ mahakaya. There are many in Malaysia even if the percentage may not be as high as 15 percent.

7-seater. EV. Below RM110,000. Famous brand. You still did not know?

The EV we are talking about is BYD’s M6 MPEV. (their own term to describe MPV EV). It’s a 7-seater which meant that for a family of 5, there is enough space for luggages when the third row of seats are lowered for luggage space. It’s also an EV which meant that the petrol price fluctuations does not impact us. So, just maybe all the T15 (soon to be announced who are these people) may just want to buy such a car since petrol subsidy is no longer given to them starting middle of 2025.

The longer we keep that car, the more money we have, correct?

How long do you drive your car before you trade it in for a new car? Perhaps it’s after the car loan ends? Maybe between 7-9 years? My ex Japanese boss used to marvel at me when he saw my speedometer showed 6 figures. He says, that’s unlikely to happen in Japan. Of course, it’s also because in Japan, he stayed in a city which is 200km away from Tokyo and took the bullet train to work, thus, he does not drive to work daily. Yes, he travels close to 450km daily just to go to work in Tokyo from his city! Daily! 🙂

EV News: Close to 1,000km range and could be charged in 9 minutes?

I just told my brother on Sunday that if I were to drive an EV back to Ipoh from KL, I may not need to charge the battery if the range is good enough. You see my home back to my Ipoh home is a mere 198km. To and fro, would be around 400km. If the EV offers a range of 500km and I conservatively take a 20 percent discount, it will still leave me with 400km range.
