Genting Highlands Toll: Latest Update Nov 2025

Genting Highlands Toll: Latest Update Nov 2025

No one likes to pay toll, that includes me.

However, there’s this one which we cannot escape from if we are going up to the Genting Theme Park in the future. Yes, it’s the toll to go up to the top of Genting Highlands. These days there are so many new developments in Genting Highlands and I think the toll is also in anticipation of more cars going up, more maintenance needed and so this is considered a step done in advance versus later yeah.

This is the latest update from Resorts World Genting Post in FB. “13 November 2025 – Genting Malaysia Berhad would like to confirm that there will be charges for vehicles entering Jalan Genting Highlands at a date to be announced. More information will follow once details are ready on this private road charge (Caj Jalan Persendirian).

The private road charge is necessary due to the steep and escalating costs of maintaining the 24-km private road and its slopes which have been borne solely by us since the 1960s. Privately built by Genting Malaysia on difficult and mountainous terrain, Jalan Genting Highlands provides safe access to Resorts World Genting as well as mountainside destinations other than those of Genting Malaysia.

Heavy usage on Jalan Genting Highlands have caused a tremendous amount of wear and tear, and requires constant maintenance to ensure the safety of the road users. On the “user pays” principle, the private road charge is the most sustainable path to defray the cost of upkeep, repairs, maintenance and other unforeseen incidents. This is to ensure the road continues to be safe for all users, and provide access to the entire Genting Highlands community, businesses, millions of tourists and members of the public from all over the country.

This is a private initiative on a private road on private land. Genting Malaysia takes the responsibility of maintaining the safety of both the roads and the slopes seriously. Working on mountainous terrain is challenging, hazardous and expensive, but it is essential to ensure the safety of the road and the slopes for continuous improvement for all users. Genting Malaysia also employs teams stationed at mid-hill and hilltop on standby 24/7 for any contingencies with trained emergency response teams in case of mishaps and accidents.

This crucial road has catalysed the tourism industry here, contributing opportunities for enterprise and employment, creating a vibrant local economy and contributing to the Pahang state economy as well as the national economy. The existence of Jalan Genting Highlands has enabled other mountainside destinations outside of the Genting Malaysia group to emerge, contributing to a dynamic tourism industry..” Resorts World Genting Post in FB.

This was the earlier article: Genting Toll Plaza: Latest Update “It was all over the media because not many people like to pay toll yeah. Especially if it’s going up to a hill which some went up just for fresh cold air and a cup of coffee. Well, I did went up once for a lunch. Usually I will go up once per quarter lah. I have children and many relatives and friends want to go up mah, so I accompany yeah. This year, I have gone up twice for concerts too. Coming back to the toll. Are we going to pay or are we not?.” Genting Toll Plaza: Latest Update

Maintenance is crucial, safety is paramount

If I am given a choice of paying toll for a well maintained and safe road leading up to a holiday destination, I would gladly pay it. However, if I am spending money in that holiday destination, then perhaps there could some mechanism to ‘reimburse’ me the toll? Win-Win situation right. I go up, I spend money, I stay there in the hotels, I bring kids, friends… This is quite typical. Even for some malls, when you spend a certain amount, they will give you back a rebate on the parking fee we paid. This is why I think this toll is not a worry for people on a holiday. Put it another way, would be not go for holidays because we have to pay toll? Happy holidaying! School holidays are coming.
