Avoid NUS and NTU Admission Scams: What You Need to Know
At the top of the world for these two universities
NUS is National University of Singapore and NTU is Nanyang Technological University. NUS is 8th in the world and NTU is 12th in the world. They do make Asia proud as they are right up there with the best in the world and if both of them were in the US, they would only be behind a handful of universities. Amazing achievements indeed.
By the way, if you intend to apply to either NUS or NTU, just go to the respective university and fill up the necessary forms yeah. They are top universities and they will gladly accept top students from all over the world so that everyone benefits.

When we become famous, scammers will come
Scammers will think of ways to ‘squeeze’ some money from anyone and everyone. For example, in the below case, scammers are trying to get potential post-grad students to pay them money so that these potential postgrad students can easily gain entry into NUS or NTU. I do not think these are those education councillors yeah. The reason is because NUS and NTU have both spoken on these “guaranteed admission” services and basically said there’s no ‘guaranteed’ or ‘fast track’ or any other terms.
Article in malaymail.com According to a report in The Straits Times today, the National University of Singapore (NUS) and Nanyang Technological University (NTU) issued advisories after such agencies were found advertising on Chinese social media platforms, particularly Xiaohongshu.
NUS said these agencies often use fabricated academic qualifications and credentials to mislead universities, and stressed that all applications are reviewed strictly on merit.
“There are no ‘guaranteed’, ‘fast track’ or ‘direct’ admission routes to NUS,” the university was quoted as saying.
One agency reportedly charges up to 300,000 yuan (about RM177,000) to help applicants gain entry into NUS, NTU and other top global universities. Article in malaymail.com
Study hard, get the right qualifications and then work hard
My personal thoughts are as follows. Top universities are amazing because it will definitely get the fresh grads more interviews versus not so-famous-ones. However, it is very important for the graduates of these top universities to also show they could communicate their ideas, they could present and they would ace their interviews. Thus far, I do not know of any multi-national company which hired people simply by looking at just the university they graduated from. If that’s the case, I think the scammer will not be charging RM177,000 yeah, probably 2 or 3 times higher. Come on, hiring just by looking at the cert! Haha.
Why do I say work hard? Well, truth is… after we have worked for a few years, when we go for an interview, they are not going to ask too many questions about the university we graduated from but more on the experience, the learnings and the potential things we could achieve for the new company. Again, I do not think for the 2nd job onwards, there are any multi-national company which again hire people by just looking at the certificate. I am super sure they need to interview the person…
Life’s never easy, university qualification is just part of the journey
There are many fresh grads who are not from NUS or NTU in the market, even in Singapore. There are also those who did not have a degree. I could not say this for some countries but for Singapore, for Malaysia and for many countries around us, as long as we are willing to work hard and smart, we have opportunities lah. A great base to jump is definitely top universities but if we do not qualify, then we do not qualify yeah. Paying money to qualify does not mean we will be able to complete the course or even to ace the interview in the future… Cheers.
