Wow. 6 percent returns possible from EPF for 2025?

Overnight Policy Rate (OPR) went lower in July

OPR was reduced from 3.00% to 2.75% effective July 9, 2025. (Source: bnm.gov.my). That meant that mortgage rates would go lower and it would make property investors happy. Imagine having extra money to spend every month. At the same time, the Fixed Deposit (FD) Rate would also drop and that would make the retirees who could be relying on their savings and interest to continue supporting their day-to-day expenses.

The FD rate is now very low…

Look at the rates below…

Good news from EPF for their investment returns in 2025?

It does seem that based on numbers, there’s that possibility that the total potential dividend could be 6 percent for 2025. Do read the below article:

Article in theedgemalaysia.com “A dividend of 5.5% for 2025 should be in the bag if the EPF does not fare too poorly in the July to December 2025 period.

A dividend of 6% for this year is still possible if the EPF keeps up its performance but it would likely need to do much better than 2Q2025 in both the remaining quarters to be able to match the dividend of 6.3% paid in 2024 for both conventional and shariah savings, The Edge’s back-of-the-envelope calculations show..” Full article here: Article in theedgemalaysia.com

Voluntary Contributions into EPF is possible

If you like your money to earn EPF dividends instead of leaving them in the bank and too scared to use it to invest into the stock market, you could move them into EPF yeah. It’s called Voluntary Contribution. Here is the form in EPF page. Some details as below:

Contribution Limit

Minimum: RM1

Maximum: RM100,000 per year

The maximum accumulated limit for Voluntary Contributions (Self Contribution, i-Saraan Contribution, i-Suri Contribution and Akaun Persaraan Top-up Savings Contribution) across all payment channels is RM100,000 per year. Source: https://www.kwsp.gov.my/en/member/savings/self-contribution

Conclusion

It’s our decision based on what we intend to achieve. Fastest could be to learn some stock trading skills and then start to do it full time and if everything goes well, it will give you returns which are many times higher too. That’s what my friend told me. I have never learnt any of these trading skills.

Probably a good second choice and yet considered safe could just be investing into the EPF; voluntary contribution. Of course the other one could just be Fixed Deposit. You will get exactly what you invest into. Choice is yours.
