Light Rail Transit 3 is in final phase of testing! Let’s ride it soon!
Will Shah Alam’s traffic jam be a thing of the past with LRT3?
Let’s take a look at the stations below. If you are staying nearby one of the stations, will you stop driving and take the LRT instead? I have since asked 3 friends staying in Shah Alam. They say the stations are a quick drive away but they have to send children to school… they need their car… they need more flexibility… well, maybe it will help to alleviate by reducing the number of cars but I think traffic jams cannot be a thing od the past.

When will it be ready for people to take a ride? Please read the news article below:
Article in malaymail.com The Light Rail Transit 3 (LRT3) service, connecting Shah Alam, Selangor, and its surrounding areas, is expected to begin operations on December 31, said Transport Minister Anthony Loke.
He said the project is in the final phase of testing and commissioning to ensure the reliability and safety of the transportation.
“The ministry, together with Prasarana Malaysia Berhad and the relevant authorities, is paying utmost priority to aspects of safety, operational reliability and technical compliance before the opening date can be finalised.
“This (opening date) is very much subject to the results of our tests because in rail services, one of the most important aspects is the final test that is being conducted, including the fault-free run (FFR), to ensure there are no technical glitches and so on when it finally opens,” he said. As usual, PUSH and PULL will determine the success of any public transport project
PUSH means we can learn from other countries which has been able to ‘encourage’ its people to go take the public transport. Maybe the council or the government has to make it more expensive to drive the car. Maybe reduce the petrol subsidy, maybe increasing the toll for anyone driving alone, maybe introducing toll within the city centre, maybe by increasing the parking rates in the city centre and maybe even to start having a Certificate of Entitlement in order to buy a car. If not PUSH, then there government can redouble the effort to PULL people to take public transport.
Free transit buses from many more housing areas to the LRT station. Introduce Introductory Unlimited Ride of 6 months. Make it so cheap that people will try and if they could try for 6 months, chances are they have built up a habit of taking the LRT too. Continue to do campaigns to tell people about the benefits, to teach people how to make the best use of LRT in connection to MRTs and other public transport types. PULL is not as powerful because PULL will target mostly people who are already open versus people who prefer driving.
My wish is the LRT 3 will have a smooth testing stage and will open on time or maybe just a little later than scheduled. Yes, of course I will somehow find time and space to go take a ride and then write an article about my experience too. See you there!
