EPF’s distributable income gives me a smiling face

EPF has a total of over 8.6 million ACTIVE members and this includes me. So, anything positive about EPF is something positive for me and all the active members too. I mean if the member is inactive but they have funds in the EPF, they will be happy too since they will also be receiving higher dividends when the EPF is doing well. Last year was a good year and this year it seems that things are even better too. Let’s read on to understand what is happening in the first half of 2024 where incomes are concerned. Good news!

Article in themalaysianreserve.com. The Employees Provident Fund’s (EPF) total distributable income for the six months ended June 30, 2024 (1H 2024) increased by 29 per cent to RM36.70 billion from RM28.40 billion in the previous corresponding period.

In a statement today, the EPF said the distributable income does not include mark-to-market gains of securities that have not been realised.

It said the EPF’s total distributable income for the second quarter (2Q 2024) after write-downs rose 25 per cent to RM17.50 billion from RM13.98 billion in the same quarter last year.

EPF chief executive officer Ahmad Zulqarnain Onn said favourable market conditions in Malaysia and internationally contributed to the 29 per cent growth in distributable income in 1H 2024, while assets under management grew to RM1.21 trillion. What’s the possibility for a 6 percent or higher dividend for this year?

Last year in 2023, EPF gave us 5.5 percent which was a very healthy number. As for the few years before, it has even reached as high as 6.9 percent in 2017 and within the past 5 years, highest was 6.15 percent. I start to wish, hope and pray that the second half of 2024 would be even better for EPF as per what most analysts are saying where the economy is concerned. Probably then, it could be higher than even 6.15 percent. I cannot take the money to enjoy but hey, it’s for a ‘higher’ amount in the future!
