Resorts World Cruises launching Singapore to Melaka cruises from November 2024!
My wife has been reminding me many times that we need to somehow find a cruise to try which sails during the school holidays so that we can bring the children along for a cruise holiday. More often than not the cruises do not start from Malaysia or the choices are limited too. The numbers are certainly increasing slowly. There will be a new cruise from Singapore to Melaka starting in November 2024 which will bring even more vibrancy to Melaka.
I wonder if they will also offer Melaka to Singapore cruise too but then I do not know if they could get enough customers. We shall see. Now for the news about the upcoming cruise starting in November 2024.
Article in cruiseindustrynews.com Resorts World Cruises is launching two-night cruises from Singapore to Melaka and Kuala Lumpur aboard the Genting Dream starting November 10, 2024, according to a press release.
Guests will enjoy extended port times of 10 to 12 hours in Melaka, with plenty of opportunities to explore before continuing to Kuala Lumpur.
The Genting Dream will dock near Melaka city, where guests can visit the UNESCO World Heritage Site known for Dutch Square’s red colonial buildings and Jonker Street’s shopping and dining.
“Resorts World Cruises is delighted to add Melaka as one of our latest destinations and homeports, which will further contribute towards the success of the state’s ‘Visit Melaka 2024’ campaign and the development of the cruise tourism sector in Melaka. With a total of 52 calls a year, the Genting Dream will bring up to 200,000 passengers to Melaka annually”, said Michael Goh, president of Resorts World Cruises. Article in cruiseindustrynews.com
If 200,000 really does happen, it’s great economy boost too
200,000 per year means easily close to 17,000 tourists from Singapore every month. Even if they spend just 8 hours or so, they will eat, buy and visit the attractions and could easily spend RM300 per person? This is RM5.1 million to the state and with a multiplier effect of 4, that’s a contribution of RM20 million per year just from these cruises alone.
Someone owning a unit for home stay in Melaka will not benefit from this yeah. However someone operating a restaurant serving delicious Melaka cuisine will benefit from more customers. So, all these are great. Plus since it’s just a few hours in Melaka, the time may not be enough and the tourists may also come back in the near future too. Let’s make this cruise happen and make it a continuous one.
