Gold, what’s happening? Why is it sliding downwards?

I am someone who would prefer to buy a 916 gold earring versus a diamond studded or some gemstone studded earring. Just my preference because I always think gold would maintain its value. When times are good, people buy more gold. When times are bad, people may prefer to keep gold and use it when needed because that banknote may lose its value overnight but gold, well it will stay valuable…

So, what is happening to gold in the world today?

Gold is trading around $3,932 to $3,941 per troy ounce USD (approximately $126.73 per gram or RM17,068 per 1 oz Kijang Emas selling price) as of early November 2026. (Source: tradingeconomics.com)

What’s the reason it is dropping in price?

Recent Short-Term Decline: Gold prices have experienced downward pressure recently, falling around 3.6% to 5.0% over the past 30 days as markets react to shifting oil prices, geopolitical headlines (such as US-Iran developments), and a strengthening US dollar. (Source: gold-price.org) Generally, what it says is that if the US$ strengthens, then price of gold would drop.

What’s the projection for the longer term?

Outlook: Major institutional forecasts anticipate gold to trade within the $3,800 to $4,650+ per ouncerange through the remainder of 2026, depending on macroeconomic data, interest rate movements by the Federal Reserve, and global risk sentiment. (Source: tradingeconomics.com)

What about my good friend’s view on gold?

A good friend told me that he does not like to buy gold via whatever trading platform. He would just buy a 916 gold ring when he has more money or get himself a pair of earring when he has less money to invest. Funny? Well, he says he prefers this way and the truth is, based on his buying from when he was much younger to now that he’s over 50 years old, he has indeed gained quite a lot from gold price appreciation. Imagine this, he said he remembered the early days when he started to buy, it was just RM80+ for 1 gram of 916 gold! Haha. Yes, RM80… Versus today which is over RM500 for 1 gram of 916 Gold.

Gold is not the only one. Buying real gold is not the only way too.

There are many investment instruments. Choose one which you love most. Choose the method you are more comfortable with as well. Just remember to invest versus spending it on that latest iPhone lah. Your current iPhone could still be working or an older model could cost you much less too. The only reason to buy is not because it has a slightly better feature yeah. The only reason you buy that new iPhone when your current one is working is because you care how people judge you. That’s all.

Okay, alternatively you just have too much money and buying an iPhone is just using your pocket money.
