PTPTN. When we owe someone money, we MUST pay or be “encouraged’ to pay it back
If I take up a home loan and I did not pay on time, the bank is very likely to take further actions including even auctioning off my home to get back the money to pay for the loans. If I did not pay my credit card debts, at the end of the day, I may be declared a bankrupt by the financial institution. If I borrow money from my friend, I better repay the debt or I may lose this friendship and also all our common friends since this friend will tell everyone else that I did not pay back the borrowing.
In other words, everything I do has a consequence when it comes to owing someone or some institutions if I try to escape from paying my debts. Here’s the news about the borrowers of PTPTN who has enjoyed the facility so that they could complete their studies and start earning a fresh grad pay. Yet, they have NOT been paying back. Now we want to stop funding for some universities when some of the people in these universities do not pay. I wonder why we need to come to this level versus directly to the INDIVIDUAL directly…
Article in nst.com.my The National Higher Education Fund Corporation (PTPTN) is considering holding funding for university courses with student repayment rates below 30 per cent.
“We are looking at ways to work with universities to encourage a loan repayment culture among borrowers. Among the mechanisms we are looking at is to continue funding for courses with high rate of loan repayment.”
“However, we may consider holding funding for courses with lower than 30 per cent of loan repayment in certain universities. We are trying to get the universities to help us with this,” PTPTN chief executive officer Ahmad Dasuki Abdul Majid said during a webinar by Khazanah Research Institute entitled “Individual vs. Collective Interests: The Student Loan Conundrum”.
He said PTPTN was established to ensure that students with commendable results in SPM were able to continue their higher education either in public or private institutions. Article in nst.com.my
If I take up PTPTN loan, and refused to pay, what should happen to me?
Now, if I take up a PTPTN loan and I did not pay (especially to those who refused to pay), nothing happens to me and then it’s a continuous never-ending advice after advice after advice then naturally I am being encouraged not to pay. Unfortunately there’s a group of us who’s not as civil and refuses to understand that by not paying, I will soon be depriving others off this benefit.
Hello, all these loans are also taxpayers’ money! Pay if you are able or else the future generations will have to stop receiving this financial assistance. Enough is enough yeah.
Thus, enough of advice, especially if the advice have fallen on deaf ears for a very long time. Time to take actions in order to ensure the sustainability of the PTPTN. This is for the future of the young Malaysians who would need funds to continue their studies yeah. This is not just for me wanting my tax money to be spent wisely and on things that matter. I do hope this article reaches enough rational people and we see a rejuvenated PTPN.
Thank you for giving future young Malaysians their chance for higher education and subsequently a potentially better life too.
