A newly proposed alignment line option for Mass Rapid Transit (MRT) 2 has been proposed. This new proposed alignment option is for a change within the section between the Tun Razak Exchange and Seri Kembangan stations. This section would now pass through Kuchai Lama, Sri Petaling, Sungai Besi and Serdang Raya and with these stations, it will carry an additional 16,000 passengers per day. The earlier option was to pass through Maluri, Pandan, Cheras and Bukit Belimbing areas. These new stations would allow for integration with the future Kuala-Lumpur-Singapore High Speed Rail (HSR) Nevertheless, this is only at proposal stage and would only be finalised after a public display exercise and government approval.
Personally, I am not staying in any of these areas. However, my only opinion is that the line should be passing through places where it will serve the highest number ridership. As my Professor once said, decisions must be based on decision science and not political science. Of course, irregardless of the stations, it must somehow be connected to the HSR because this project is of national importance and must succeed. In fact such an integration would allow passengers a quick and direct route into Kuala Lumpur’s Golden Triangle. Yes, the Golden Triangle would then be even ‘more’ golden and perhaps more jammed but this jam would not be caused by people instead of cars. If anyone have been to the golden triangle during peak hours, you would get what I mean.
The announcement from MRT Corp also said that this route would allow for a more direct route for commuters from Putrajaya, Cyberjaya and Serdang to Kuala Lumpur. I think Cyberjaya would now be an even hotter topic for many property investors. As for Serdang which has always been considered ‘far’, perhaps this may increase it’s attractiveness. The market must stop concentrating on all the typical hot areas and pushing the prices up. Let’s spread the population because the number of new residents in Klang Valley would continue to increase. If all of them continue to crowd just that few areas, good luck to these areas because sooner or later, the bubble will burst. Klang Valley is still big enough to cater to more population. Everyone just have to be more open. 🙂
For those who wants to comment, well, do go take a look. For three months, this MRT Corp’s Railway Scheme Public Display will be put up at 24 locations across the city. It is beginning from mid-May 2015. After this, MRT Line 3’s feasibility study would start! Come on, this should be a good news to people who needs to buy. If we hate the jams, perhaps we should just stay further away and take the MRT. For now, everyone just have to jam or make do with the existing LRTs, KTM and Monorail. Happy viewing.
