RM11 billion KL Wellness City to complete first phase by 2025

KL Wellness City will be first-of-its kind integrated healthcare based sustainable township in Bukit Jalil, Kuala Lumpur. There are two phases to this development with a gross development value (GDV) of RM11 billion. The first phase is targeted for completion in 2025. Eventually, when both phases are completed, it will also include office towers, a retirement resort and wellness-centric serviced apartments.

Its managing director Datuk Dr Colin Lee, “KL Wellness City will redefine the way Malaysian and international patients receive treatment, in a sustainable township complemented by a full suite of offerings across the health, medical, fitness, and wellness pillars.”

He added, “This can be achieved by integrating the medical, ancillary and support services into one purpose-built wellness hub like the one we are offering. We also aim for this healthcare hub to further strengthen Malaysia’s position as the leading destination for global healthcare tourists, and to contribute towards Malaysia’s economy.”

Lee also shared that KL Wellness City will be building a decided medical and wellness suite complex called The Nobel Healthcare Park and this is being planned as a one-stop hub from diagnosis to rehabilitation. This will have a GDV of RM1 billion. There will also be a 517-bed international hospital and construction has started about 6 months ago spanning an area of 7 acres.

He shared that the medical units are built in accordance with Ministry of Health specifications and are designed in a modular format, allowing specialists to choose the ideal size for their practice. The suites start at 223 square feet and they are selling from RM414,000.

He said, “The International Hospital will be built in two stages. The first phase will include 517 beds and is expected to cost around RM360 million. Phase two will see the hospital expanded to around 1,000 beds. The Nobel Healthcare Park’s GDC is estimated to be around RM230 million.”

Datuk Sri Dr. Vincent Tiew, KLWC executive director (branding, sales, and marketing), said that the International Hospital and Nobel Healthcare Park are pursuing Green Building Index (GBI) certification.

He said, “Generally speaking, you will not be able to build this type of medical township if you are a typical property developer. If you are a hospital-related organisation, you will not be constructing a city or a township. You will be extremely hospital- or medical-driven.”

“What we are doing here is constructing an ecosystem that is fully integrated between five components. We have wellness, medical tourism, lifestyle (healthcare mall), a property component with serviced suites, lifestyle homes, retirement homes, and, most importantly, a true International Hospital.”

“Why are we optimistic about the retirement home market? Because we will be the sole owners of our International Hospital. It is not a small facility. It will be huge, with 1,000 beds and 22 operating theatres. Overall, we are very optimistic because we believe we have the right product to market and the right people in the company to take it forward.”
