Ipoh too many malls liao, true or not true?
If you are staying in Ipoh today, you would know there are generally two malls which is full of people on most days. Aeon Kinta City and also Ipoh Parade. Both are no longer looking very new but both has continued to attract sufficient interest and both continue to have lots of interest and it’s not easy to get a car park space during the evenings. Perhaps Ipoh people just love to enjoy free aircond?
Let’s not compare them to Mid Valley Megamall or 1 Utama if we have some logic yeah. Ipoh is a second tier city with 842,000 population while Kuala Lumpur has 8.8 million population! This is 10x larger than Ipoh yeah. So, when the below article was posted, a ‘clever’ friend told me that Ipoh already have too many malls, why build another mall?

The better mall always win and that’s a benefit to everyone
I do not wish to only shop at two malls in Ipoh. I would hope that this new Sunway City mall to be a serious competitor to these two existing malls in Ipoh. I would not mind to drive an extra 5 minutes to go to the RM1 billion Sunway mall here in Ipoh yeah. In fact the better mall always win which meant that if Sunway did not do a good job, then naturally people will continue to just visit Aeon Kinta City and Ipoh Parade.
However, if they do a great job, then it meant that both Aeon Kinta City and Ipoh Parade would just have to up their game or they will have to leave the mall market or lose a lot of their existing customers. This is definitely a good news for Ipohans and even the new visitors who will come to Ipoh as a tourist too. Come, come, the more the merrier. Time for even more vibrancy here in Ipoh.
To that ‘clever’ friend, you can choose to ignore the new mall or we can visit together. Coffee on me!
