If a sinkhole happened before, why does it happen again at the same place?

Pardon me for saying this. Why did we let a sinkhole which has happened at the same place last year happen again this year? One bitten twice shy? Wrong action the first time is a mistake but to repeat the wrong action again would now be a foolish action. Now, it has caused a woman to be ‘swallowed’ and is still missing as at the report below.

Article in nst.com.my. KUALA LUMPUR: The sinkhole on Jalan Masjid India that caused a woman to fall and go missing today is not the first incident, as it was reported to have occurred at the same location last year.

This was confirmed by Kuala Lumpur police chief Datuk Rusdi Mohd Isa. However, the incident last year did not result in any casualties.

“I have been informed that this place had experienced a similar collapse before, very close to today’s incident, but it has since been repaired.

“For today’s incident, we have CCTV footage clearly showing how the victim fell into the sinkhole, and it only involved one victim,” he said at a press conference at the scene today. Article in nst.com.my.

What happens after this?

I hope the woman could be found. After this incident, what do we next? Hopefully, the authorities are not thinking of doing the exact same thing which is to repair the hole and pray it does not become a sinkhole again next year. Enough of the ‘simply do’ attitude yeah.

Hopefully all the major media will continue to pay attention to this sinkhole and keep reporting until some action is done and that the action taken this time is will take into account the reasons for the sinkhole in the first place too. If it’s deemed unsafe, it’s about time we ensure no one walks on it after this, even if it got repaired again.
