Social media ban is the solution? Means we are targeting the children as the solution?
Big news indeed for Malaysia
Take a look at the below screenshot when I google ‘Malaysia’. Yeap, everything about the social media ban for 16-year olds. My daughter is 12 and my son is 10, so both of them naturally will be banned from social media for 4 years and 6 years respectively. What are your thoughts about this social media ban? Well, my thoughts are similar as how we handle disciplinary issues too. It’s always the children’s to blame. However, is this really the case?

I prefer to know what’s happening with my children and their friends
I know, some parents would prefer to have their own time and not needing to read or case about what their children are doing with their handphones. Well, I care. I also know that if my children is on social media, whatever happens online is shown online. Regardless of the social media they use, when they use it, we know what they are using it for. We know who their friends are and if they don’t allow me to be one of their friends, then I will ban them from using. However, when we ban their social media usage, then what is next?
Do we assume without social media, they will now focus on their studies… focus on only good websites… focus on going out to exercise… or maybe without social media, they will now speak to their parents more…? But, their parents are on social media! Anyway, this is just me and I am just one out of millions and millions of parents out there. Perhaps I am the minority?
We will see what happens next year then. Who knows, maybe it works!?
