How many names of the richest women whom we know? I got tired of that few names of richest men in the world. I think everyone knows them. There’s that online shopping guy, that electric car guy and that operating system guy and well a few more but the story has stayed almost the same. I am talking about all three from the U.S. yeah. What about the women then? Who’s the richest? Who’s new? Who’s because of family? Who’s doing it on her own? Here are the answers from visualcapitalist.com I am serious, they have many interesting infographics and I have written about them before too.
How many do I know?
From the top 10 here (image below), I know #2 because she’s from Walmart. She’s an heiress to the fortune of Walmart. I know the #3 because she was the ex-wife of Jeff Bezos, the founder of Amazon. As part of the divorce settlement, she is now the #3 in the list of richest women. I know #5 as she is from a company which many Malaysians would also be familiar; Country Garden Holdings. The #6, we may not know her name but we know the brand she inherited. Mars. Yeah, that candy. #9 is Laurene Powell Jobs. Yes, she is the wife of a world respected figure, the late Steve Jobs.
How many do you know?
What about all of you? How many could you recognise? Not that many I would think, especially if compared to the names of all the names of the richest men. It’s either the media love reporting the men more or that we love to read about the men more. It’s also important to note here that it’s also important to be an heiress to a family business too. The next thing to do is just to continue building up the wealth and remain entrenched in the list.

Within these top 20, we could see the U.S has a major share in the top 10 richest women. 50% of the top 10 list. However, when we look at the next 10 which is 11th to 20th, there’s only 1 representative from the U.S. Meanwhile China which took 2 out of 10 in the top 10 is now prominent in the next 10. It has a total of 6 (adding Hong Kong) too. Number 18, Kwong Siu-Hing is of Sun Hung Kai properties.
What can we do about it?
As we could see from the list, they become rich because they have a business which everyone loves to buy from. It could be a generation or two before but still it’s a business which has continued to do well over time. So, if we are looking for a chance to become a billionaire, then perhaps an entrepreneur route is the only way.
