Let’s fly to Pulau Pangkor (duty-free island)

Let’s fly to Pulau Pangkor (duty-free island)

In case you did not know, Pulau Pangkor is also having duty-free status now. It’s effective since 1st January 2020. Yes, it’s now possible to buy all the liquor you like just like how we have been doing when we go to Pulau Langkawi previously. Usually people would drive there but some may say the journey is just too long?

One needs to drive over 3 hours to arrive at the Marina Island jetty where you could then take the ferry to Pulau Pangkor. So, this has been one reason why many may not think of Pulau Pangkor as the first choice and may prefer to fly to Langkawi instead. Me too, even if I am Perakian from Ipoh and I have a condo in Manjung.

There is now another way yeah. Fly to Pulau Pangkor from Subang Airport. News below.

Article in nst.com.my Pulau Pangkor’s short takeoff and landing port (STOLports) today welcomed the inaugural flight KI6357 by SKS Airways from Sultan Abdul Aziz Shah Airport or Subang Airport. It was witnessed by the Perak chief minister Datuk Seri Saarani Mohamad and Malaysia Airports Holdings Bhd (MAHB) chairman Datuk Seri DiRaja Dr Zambry Abd Kadir (former Menteri Besar of Perak)

MAHB said that the DAILY flight between Subang Airport and Pulau Pangkor would start from January 26, 2022, onwards, using the DHC6-Twin-Otter aircraft, which can accommodate up to 19 passengers on board.

Zambry said, “Islands in Malaysia are already renowned for their natural tourist attractions, and the tourism demand for them is strong. The start of commercial flight operations will provide the necessary connectivity to attract more international tourists to the island.” Do read the article in full here: Article in nst.com.my

19 passengers ONLY?

Yes, it’s just 19 passengers but if this is FULL every flight, of course the number of flights will increase. There’s really no need to rush things. By the way, 19 passenger staying a few nights would mean that by the 3rd night, there are already 57 tourists in Pulau Pangkor. If each spends just RM500, that’s still RM28,500 into Pulau Pangkor yeah. That’s why all these must start and not wait.

Do make Pulau Pangkor another destination for you yeah. Thank you on behalf of Perak. 🙂
