Property Investment 101: “Cautiously Optimistic” means what?

This is what ‘cautiously’ means

Let’s not think what it means. No need for any debate too. Let’s have the usual authority (Yes, from the UK, not the US) tell us what it means. According to Oxford Languages, this is the meaning for cautiously: “in a way that deliberately avoids potential problems or dangers.” This is how the word is used in a sentence. “”we must proceed cautiously.”

This is what ‘optimistic’ means

Now for the second word in a description which is often used by many analysts and economists these days. In fact it’s like everyone is using this ‘cautiously optimistic’ term these days. Don’t believe me? Well, a few news articles for reference as below: (from private companies in tobacco to food, EU leaders and even economists)

Back to our topic of the day. According to Oxford Learners’ Dictionaries, this is the meaning for optimistic. “expecting good things to happen or something to be successful; showing this feeling.”

Okay, so first word is bordering on potential danger and second word is all about positivity. Cautiously Optimistic is thus telling us to be brave and move forward but do so with considerations and not haphazardly. Please do note that even the sample sentence for the word cautious says to proceed yeah.

If I say I am cautiously optimistic, this is what I am really going to do

The I here means me. Charles Tan. If I say I am cautiously optimistic of the property market, it meant that I will continue the same path for my property investment journey which is to really know what am I buying before buying. I do not subscribe to the views that the property market is booming or the market is in the dumps UNLESS I found evidence of it after my own personal research and analysis. Plus, whether booming or not booming, it is not the main reason to do property investment yeah.

I also do not subscribe to the view about the so-called popular area unless I personally like the area and the reason I like has to be that I found an undervalued property and not because I found a property which is already priced at the typical price range. Be real, stop believing the fact that only the popular area property will be growing all the time and every other not popular area will stay the same. You must be living in some unreal world…

Now the last question, are you also feeling cautiously optimistic? Happy deciding.

Please do share if you believe others could benefit too. Thank you.
