Malaysia’s 2026 GDP expected to grow fastest since 2022!
I know, it’s almost a certainty that people would question the number. “I am not earning more, how can the economy be positively growing?” Frankly, my salary increment is also lower than the number which HSBC has stated below yeah. So, I can also ask the same question. However, truth is, there are lots of signs too.
Property transactions are still happening… (Source: napic.jpph.gov.my)
Businesses are still expanding by opening new stores in new malls… (Source: 118mall-kl.com)
Job listings are still a big number even at JobStreet.com or any other job site or social media too. (Source: jobstreet.com)
We have yet to mention the fact that car sales are still going to hit 800,000 units for 2026. (Source: thesun.my)
So, yeah, things really are happening which is why HSBC has raised its GDP forecast for Malaysia. Do read what they said below:
Article in nst.com.my. Malaysia’s economy could post its strongest annual growth in four years after HSBC raised its 2026 gross domestic product (GDP) forecast to 5.5 per cent from 5.2 per cent, a revision that economists say is plausible.
HSBC cited Malaysia’s sustained strong momentum, backed by robust domestic demand and a surge in electronics exports.
If realised, the expansion would be the fastest since 2022, when the economy rebounded by 8.7 per cent following the Covid-19 pandemic.
Setting aside the post-pandemic rebound, it would be the strongest annual growth in nine years, since 2017, when the economy expanded by about 5.9 per cent.
HSBC said the upgrade followed Malaysia’s better-than-expected advance GDP growth estimate of 5.3 per cent for the third quarter (Q3). Do read the full article here: Article in nst.com.my.
Time to maybe change?
If we read deeper and wider, we may note certain industries are growing faster than others. Perhaps a change in industry so that we are at where the action is versus where the action was? One example? Education industry could be evergreen but it’s not as exciting as a technology startup. Another example? Hotel is seasonal but banks are stable.
When we look around, we could also see that the right roles / job could also determine whether we get the benefits of the growth too. We know that roles are super diverse these days. GTM Manager, anyone? What about Enablement Manager? or even Strategy Manager? All these roles are usually found in larger or multi-nationals. Thus, the salary range would also be higher too.
There are definitely the option of probably work during the weekends too? It’s not that hard to start driving for extra pay yeah. Alternatively e-commerce may also provide some opportunities too. Who knows, you are a great baker? So, perhaps it’s also very important for us to understand why some analysts are saying positive things about Malaysia and yet we did not feel it.
