Landslip in Setapak for one house. Evacuations ordered.

Landslip in Setapak. Evacuations ordered.

If you are wondering what is the difference between landslip versus landslide, most of the definitions and explanations I found says that they are the same. So, landslip and landslide can be used interchangeably even if some explanations say landslip is over a longer period of time and landslide is immediate. So you can also say that landslip happens first and then only a landslide happens?

Anyway, when rainy season is back, we must always be wary of any landslips we see. Muddy colored water at some slopes for example should give us some warnings. One such landslip occurred in Setapak, Kuala Lumpur. Fortunately no one has been harmed but evacuations have been ordered.

Article in thestar.com.my. The occupants of a house in Taman Bunga Raya in Setapak, Kuala Lumpur, have been ordered to evacuate following a landslip underneath the structure.

The premise is located atop a hill next to Jalan Genting Klang, parts of which slipped after a downpour on Thursday evening (Aug 22).

Speaking to a Malay portal, the Fire and Rescue Department senior operation commander 2 Muhammad Hasif Zakaria said the Kuala Lumpur Action Centre received a distress call at 5.43pm.

“A total of six officers together with machinery from Wanga Maju Fire Station were dispatched to the scene,” he was quoted as saying.

He said according to information received from the police, the occupants of nearby houses were also ordered to evacuate due to soil movement.

“Monitoring is still ongoing at the site. As of now, only one house is affected,” he was further quoted as saying. Article in thestar.com.my.

Raining the whole North-South Expressway

I was driving from KL to Ipoh yesterday and it was raining throughout the whole highway and thus I reduced my speed to just 80-90 km per hour versus the usual 110km per hour. (Yes, I follows speed limits). However, many cars continue to drive as if nothing was happening and when I was about to arrive in the Ipoh toll, I could see a red car with hazard lights still on on the right side of the road. It has slammed into the barrier and the front portion of the car is already fully damaged. Hopefully everyone’s safe.

A reminder to all drivers that when roads are slippery, even braking may cause the car to swerve and accidents to happen. There’s no need to rush. Your loved ones are waiting for you.
