When parking rate is more expensive than the hourly pay, one would have to work harder? Enough?
I have always loved to note down the parking rates in the different countries I visit. For example, it’s as high as AUD12 per half an hour in Sydney that I have seen. Thus, I think many would be tempted to just take the public transport instead. Else, one would have to earn a lot more just to cover the parking rate charges every day. Imagine working whole day for RM100 and then having to pay RM48 for parking in some malls where you work? Crazy isn’t it?
I am still in California and I was speaking to the UBER driver, I asked about the parking rate which was shown. Is that expensive or is that cheap?
He said for me, it’s acceptable. The rate was as below:

However he added that it also depends on how much the person earns per hour. The reason is because everyone usually drives to work and they would have to pay to park their cars. Speaking of minimum salary, what’s the typical rate per hour in California?
“The minimum wage in California, effective January 1, 2024, is $16.00/hour for all employers. Fast Food Restaurant employers, effective April 1, 2024, and Healthcare Facility employers, effective June 1, 2024, will have a higher minimum wage.” Info source: https://www.dir.ca.gov/dlse/minimum_wage.htm
I cannot imagine if someone is earning US$12 per hour and the parking rate is also US$12 per hour. If he has to park his car and by the end of the day, he comes back and has to pay for the parking fees. Even if he / she earns US$20 per hour, this is still hardly sufficient to cover for the full day parking yeah. If this is the case, then how do we expect this person to save enough, to stop struggling and to even start thinking of how to earn more?
What about Malaysia then, how much do we earn per hour and how much is the fee per hour?
