What if West Coast Expressway (WCE) be extended to KLIA?

What if West Coast Expressway (WCE) be extended to KLIA?

Think really logically. When we drive, is it the duration or the distance that counts? Would you prefer to drive just 15km but take 45 minutes or drive 30km but takes the same time? This is why connectivity is very important and many times, we fail to take into the account that it’s not the ‘very far’ that should be the comment but it should be the ‘very jam’ that matters more.

I know… during the weekends when there are no jams (for some places), then the journey of a 15km road certainly is better than the journey of a 30km distance. 🙂 Just need to note that for the 30km distance person, he / she would just be an extra 8-10 minutes more versus the one staying nearer. This is acceptable to me as long as the price is much lower. Just my opinion. We buy what we like, right?

Here’s another potential…

Article in paultan.org Selangor chief minister Datuk Seri Amirudin Shari has proposed that the West Coast Expressway be extended to to Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA) in Sepang, reported the Selangor Journal.

The extension of the expressway would benefit the region, including Port Dickson in Negeri Sembilan, said the state’s chief minister, who is also Gombak MP.

“In my opinion, it would be beneficial if this extension could reach KLIA as well. Not only would this benefit others, but it would also enhance our entire network, leading to faster transportation, economic growth, and improved development in the region, especially in the integrated development region in South Selangor,” Amirudin said. I have driven in the WCE, what about you?

The below is the WCE. I have driven the WCE from Ipoh to Sitiawan and I have driven from Sitiawan to Teluk Intan. Ipoh is my hometown. Sitiawan is my late father’s hometown and Teluk Intan is my mother’s hometown. I think the WCE is an excellent idea. The more connected all these towns and cities are, the better potential for economic growth too. If I just wanted to get some seafood in Kampung Koh in Tanjung, I just drive from any place along the WCE to Sitiawan. If someone has yet to taste the delicious Teluk Intan chee cheong fun, it’s time to go as well.

WCE to KLIA? Let’s go for it BUT…

Who will fund this new extension? Good question. The Selangor state government? The state may want to spur economic development but should it prioritize this versus others since there is a limit to the state budget? Should it fall to the WCE concessionaire? Then, we will have to think about tolls yeah plus the duration of the concession. Let’s not expect the private firms to do something free for the public lah. They also need to survive and they have many employees too.

Perhaps this suggestion is to be included into the budget 2026? Okay, that is some time away. We have more time to talk about the viability, the pros and the cons too.

However, more extension is good and I support and I think some further studies would be required too. If someone wants to say, well, there is the ETS from KL Sentral! 🙂 Haha. Means everyone from all these towns should drive into KL Sentral and then park their car (will cost them a bomb) and then take the train to KLIA and then after that take the train back to KL Sentral (pay the bomb) and then drive back to their hometowns? Great suggestion indeed. I would not do that if I were you though. So, let’s see what the government decides.
