What could we rent for RM2,000 per month today in Kuala Lumpur?

What could we rent for RM2,000 per month today in Kuala Lumpur?

Renting is easy and there are lots of choices

I agree to this assertion that these days, it is so easy to rent a place in Kuala Lumpur. Specifically a condominium, not even just an apartment but a comfortable condominium with facilities. People also say that the market is soft and that there are a lot more owners who wants to rent out versus there are tenants who want to rent a place. With supply higher than demand, the rental price cannot be high.

So here are the typical RM2,000 choices. All three look fully furnished. In other words, the ones they are targeting would be those who just want to move in immediately and without the need to furnish the units by themselves. Saves a lot of money and it does not make financial sense to rent a unit for RM2,000 and still have to buy this, that and everything. Costs a lot of time, effort and money yeah. Haha.

Who are the target markets for these RM2,000 units?

Someone who does not want to buy a place since they may not want to work in Kuala Lumpur forever. Maybe they may change job and move elsewhere? Maybe they can get a job in the country whose currency is more than 3x our ringgit? It can also be someone who has yet to have the downpayment but does not prefer to live in a room and prefers to rent one whole unit instead.

Maybe they are also working professionals whose office is inside Kuala Lumpur and they migrated from some places outside Kuala Lumpur who just want to be nearer to the office versus having to drive over 32km to go to work (from Rawang) or 39km (from Semenyih) or Shah Alam (30km). All these very far away places (according to many people) does offer a much larger space and usually a landed property versus just condos when we are talking about city centers.

RM2,000 rental in Rawang or Semenyih or Shah Alam?

Here’s one in Rawang. Gated and Guarded community nd now with many shops already open.

A modern two-storey terraced house located in Bandar Gamuda Gardens, Rawang, Selangor, listed for RM 1,900 per month. The property features four bedrooms and three bathrooms, with a total built-up area of 1,639 square feet. It's available for rent with a listing date of December 9, 2025.

Choices, Choices and Choices. Just what we really want.

If we are single, I sincerely believe a better choice is one which is nearer to the office lah. If we are a couple, it really depends on where both are working. If both are working at different places, then it is still an open choice. If we have a family with kids, I would prefer a landed property with a lot more green space. I do not know what people believe but I believe it’s healthier if there are a lot more greens and we will feel better if we can see a lot more space around us versus feeling confined with towers after towers of condominiums surrounding the whole area.

For the same amount of money, the high-rise unit we rent in the city centre would usually be a much smaller unit too. If we like a bigger unit but still in the city centre, then we may need to consider apartments instead of condominiums. This is the reason why we have so much choices for everyone to choose from. So, if one can afford RM2,000 one is truly spoilt for choice here in Kuala Lumpur. We really do not need to just choose from flats after flats and more flats yeah. Happy choosing.
