Village Grocer with 9 new stores within Klang Valley

For those in the Klang Valley, when we buy a home sweet home, always make sure there’s a supermarket nearby. A mall is less important than a place for grocery shopping. My serious personal opinion. Coming back to the topic of today. Sometimes don’t we wonder what’s really happening to the supermarket scene in Malaysia? On one hand, we have many cases where the supermarket chains were struggling and yet on the other hand, we have many which are still expanding? If the market is really bad, it should affect all supermarkets, not just a few. Well, one seemed to be very confident with its business potential. Reported in ptlm.com.my, Village Grocer Holdings Sdn Bhd is planning to open at least eight to nine new outlets in the coming two years. The list of the malls that they would be opening up are as follows:
  1. SS15 Courtyard Mall in Subang Jaya;
  2. M City, Jalan Ampang;
  3. Tropicana Avenue, Persiaran Tropicana;
  4. Plaza Arcadia in Desa ParkCity;
  5. Melawati Mall in Taman Melawati;
  6. Tamarind Square in Cyberjaya;
  7. Empire City Mall in Damansara Perdana;
  8. myTOWN Shopping Centre in Maluri, Cheras; and
  9. EkoCheras Mall, Jalan Cheras.

Perhaps I share my personal experience as someone who does grocery shopping on a weekly basis. Yes, I do grocery shopping together with my wife and I love it. Pricing wise, there are many more cheaper supermarket chains in the market when compared to Village Grocer. I am talking about overall basis. However, I always love to shop at supermarkets where there’s enough walking space, the food looks fresh and is arranged in a pleasant way and the workers seem to know what they are doing. I think these supermarket chains, especially those catering to slightly above the middle income family meant that their target market is smaller. However, it also meant that as long as they know their target market, they would also earn good profits. Besides, how many of us, the younger generation love to visit the wet market unless our parents requested us specifically? Haha. Yes, I put myself under the younger generation as well.
A good supermarket would also be able to anchor a mall well, especially the smaller ones. We need a place to have dinner or lunch and at the same time to complete our grocery shopping. Not many people going to two different places.For those with families, it’s definitely a one-stop decision. Yes, I guess now we know why malls always put good supermarket brands as their anchor tenant. It’s a necessity these days. Happy visiting Village Grocer.
