The accident not my fault, can I claim insurance and NCD remains intact?

My first thought was, no. Of course not. If it’s a small one, just fix it and pay for it and just continue to enjoy the NCD discount. Apparently, this is not the case. As long as it is NOT our fault and this is also validated by the police in their report, then it is possible to claim from our insurer for the repair. Even after this claim, the NCD remains intact; no reduction in the discount at all. Here’s the latest news in many media today.

Read here: thestar.com.my. “Motorists who are not at fault in road accidents can claim directly from their own insurer without losing their No-Claim Discount (NCD).

Bank Negara Malaysia (BNM) Consumer and Market Conduct Department deputy director Lailatul Akma Mohd Shukor said this  requirement is part of a revised motor insurance claims policy.

She said the “Own Damage Knock-for-Knock” (OD-KFK) option allows drivers with comprehensive motor insurance to repair their vehicles through their own insurer instead of waiting for the at-fault party’s insurer.

“This speeds up the process, removes out-of-pocket expenses, and preserves the driver’s NCD..” Read here: thestar.com.my.

In case, you do not believe if just one media reporting it, well here’s another one.

Read it in nst.com.my “Motorists who are not at fault in accidents can claim repairs directly from their own insurers without affecting their No Claim Discount (NCD).

Bank Negara Malaysia (BNM) Consumer and Market Conduct Department deputy director Lailatul Akma Mohd Shukor said the initiative was introduced under reforms to motor insurance claims settlement practices.

Known as the “Own Damage Knock-for-Knock” (OD-KFK) option, it allows drivers with comprehensive motor insurance policies to have their vehicles repaired directly through their own insurers, without waiting for the third-party insurer to process the claim..” Read it in nst.com.my

Safe driving please, then NCD’s safe too

Stay safe by driving safely yeah. This is applicable only if the accident is not our fault to begin with. Else, we will lose everything, losing the NCD discount and losing future discounts too. Total number of accidents continue to rise and the real reason is because people thought the road belong to their ‘grandfather’ lah. Plus many may NOT have the necessary skills to drive.

One such example? Look for those who cannot even do the reverse parking and always slow down everyone because they could not come out of the parking space properly since they could see nothing as they reverse out of the car park lot. This is just ONE of such example. Sorry yeah, park properly means reverse parking and it will be safer for you, me and everyone else too. I understand in some countries, that if you do not reverse park, you will be fined! Good idea…
