Starting pay of RM4,000 for an engineer? Johor has it.
Someone told me that the salary of RM4,000 is not a lot. In fact if the engineer were to earn S$2,800 in Singapore, that’s already over RM9,000 if converted into RM. Well, this person earning S$ would have to stay in a small room inside Singapore and pay roughly S$900- $1,200. The closer the place is to the MRT station, the higher the rental would be. The person would still have to eat inside Singapore and pay in S$. The person should not do too many things, best would be to go back to his small room right after work and continue doing the same the very next day.
Remember to save as much as possible at the end of every month. This is so that at the end of 5 years, the person has some savings to buy a place inside Johor Bahru. Surely, it is not to buy a place inside Singapore since the price is going to be in S$ and it is likely to be beyond the reach of someone who has just started working for 5 years.
Here’s that Article in channelnewsasia.com Johor is set to become the first state in Malaysia to offer “premium” salary packages for skilled workers, especially in specific sectors related to the Johor-Singapore Special Economic Zone (JS-SEZ).
The pledged starting salaries, which could reach up to RM5,000 (US$1,146) for those with degrees in specific sectors related to the proposed SEZ would be about twice the average RM2,700 starting salary in Malaysia for degree holders according to the Malaysian Employers Federation.
“What the Johor state government is doing is to ensure premium wages of RM4,000 for diploma holders and RM5,000 for those with the Malaysian Skills Certificate equivalent to a degree and I must acknowledge that no other state has done this far,” Deputy Prime Minister Ahmad Zahid Hamidi announced at the launch of the Johor Talent Development Council (JTDC) on Sunday (Nov 3), as quoted by national news agency, Bernama. What about the RM4,000 or RM5,000 salaried engineer in Johor Bahru?
Now, RM4,000 meanwhile allows this person to rent one whole apartment or if he / she wants to save, then much lower or if he / she staying with the parents, then voila, nearly free. At the same time, buying any of these two following cars are okay too:

or this:

or even this, if the person really thinks he / she needs a ‘better’ car to show off to his / her friend working in Singapore.

Plus the fact that someone earning RM4,000 per month can still save money if he / she wants to. Work hard, rise up the ranks and perhaps give years later, earning 50 percent more than the starting pay too. If anyone wants to debate on the salary of an engineer in Singapore after 5 years, just need to remember that the company continue to have the option of hiring another Malaysian to take up the position and earning S$ too. This is why it is not possible to earn too high salary because of the demand and supply situation.
Happy working and if one is very capable to save money, then perhaps there is a slightly advantage earning S$ versus just RM. However, from experience and statistically speaking, not many are able to be disciplined and kept saving, saving and saving and not spending the money even though they know the more they spend, the less they could save.
