Special Economic Zone update: Singapore PM’s views

So much to achieve, together

Close to 400,000 people are crossing between JB and Singapore daily. 400,000 people travel between two places daily 9click to read) This is also 400,000 people spending money in both places daily too. 🙂 This is also where services would have to cater to these 400,000 people daily too. The nasi lemak seller… the stalls in the food courts and even accommodation and transportation services too. Some Singaporeans also prefer to eat KFC here and some Malaysians say that Singapore’s Katong Laksa is good…

Let’s not digress too much. Basic idea is simple. Work together and both nations benefit. The upcoming cooperation would be the Special Economic Zone (SEZ).

Article in thesundaily.my Special Economic Zone (SEZ) will have a signing of memorandum of understanding between Malaysia and Singapore next year.

Singapore Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong has these three key points which he pointed out.

“Preliminarily, I think there are three things you want to do (in the SEZ). Firstly, improving the flow of goods between the two sides because SEZ may mean special tax arrangements and bonded warehouses and and therefore, more easy border flows.”

“Secondly, better and easier arrangements on the flow of people who have to work on both sides of the causeway. They can go in and out, and then the companies in the SEZ are able to get the personnel they need, the right mix of professionals, skilled workers and other general workers.”

Thirdly, he said, is for the SEZ to enhance the ecosystem of the Iskandar development region as well as Singapore. Do read the article in full here: Article in thesundaily.my

It’s not even just JB – SG yeah

In fact the busiest international flight route in the world is also between Kuala Lumpur and Singapore too. Let’s be realistic and logical yeah. When two countries can become more integrated in terms of economy, both countries benefit. Period. We go there for holidays (try and stay in some budget hotels) and they come here for holidays (can stay in 4 or 5 star hotels), it’s okay!

When many visitors from Singapore come and stay here, more people will have to be employed. These people who are gainfully employed is also spending their money here too. This is why when it comes to the economic growth, there’s a term called multiplier effect yeah.
