RM5,000 – RM6,000 for a fresh engineering graduate? Definitely a wow.

How much is the typical salary for engineers here in Malaysia? I searched online and the below is what I found in two sites. Their information are quite similar, engineers have an average salary between RM3.5k to RM5.5k

What if the salary offered is RM5,000 – RM6,000 per month for a fresh engineering graduate?

Well, many companies will lose their best freshly joined engineering graduate to the company which is offering RM5,000 – RM6,000 yeah. Then again, not everyone would fit into the requirements for the RM5,000 – RM6,000 role. Usually, these roles would be in research and development because the result from their work could be used to help the company earn a lot more money. This is different from a quality engineer who is focused on cost efficiency. Savings is great but earning a higher profit is the only way one will have a higher pay yeah.

PUCHONG (Aug 6): Selangor’s newly-opened integrated circuit (IC) design park in Puchong is offering fresh engineering graduates salaries matching those in its neighbours Singapore and Vietnam, according to the Selangor Information Technology and Digital Economy Corp (Sidec) chief executive officer Yong Kai Ping.

Get the right skills and suddenly the salary will rise

If the role is a critical one, accept it and learn because salary will soon be amazing. Do not take up a role just because it’s a multi-national brand but the role is more of a maintenance engineer or a role focused on efficiency because these are just savings to the company. How much extra could we save for the company year after year? Process optimisation where cost savings is concerned can happen continuously but this will never be anywhere near the potential windfall profits from the R&D of a new product which becomes an overnight success in the market.
