Property Investment 101: Did you read the flood news?

Do we know if the place we are buying is safe from flood?

Every year, monsoon season would come and we will start to read about flood. In some cities, potentially a flash flood. In some places, flood comes every year. When I was living in Teluk Intan, I stay with my grandparents during the day as both my parents were working. The flood comes every year. It’s only a matter of how many days or the exact time it starts but it comes every year without fail. I remember to be sitting on the dining table while my late grandmother would be cleaning the house after the flood. Would you buy a place which get flooded every year end? Or when monsoon season hits?

Article in malaymail.com The number of flood victims in Johor surged in just over an hour to 3,322 people as of 8 pm, now housed in 45 temporary relief centres as Pontian became the latest, and sixth district, to be hit.

State Disaster Management Committee (JPBN) chairman Tan Sri Azmi Rohani said this is compared to the 1,805 victims who had been seeking shelter in 41 relief centres as of 7 pm. Article in malaymail.com

More news in google too. In other words, these will repeat.

Choices need to be supported by knowledge

Every time flood happens, just need to read the news. Then, google for that place where the flood happened. Get to know the reasons why. Once we know that there’s no way that flood could stop for that particular area every year, it’s the time we decide if it’s worth the price to buy. I am not saying read every flood news in every state. That’s up to you. However, every time there’s flood news in the state where you stay or where you want to buy, it’s prudent to read further and know. This is because trying to do a research later just before you pay hundreds of thousands may not be easy.

I leave you with some news which actually will state the names of the roads too.

For property investment, curiosity allows us to stay ahead of potential issues in the future. Happy spending some time on reading because we are speaking about a few hundred thousand ringgit usually when it comes to property investment.
