PM Anwar: 19 MoUs with RM170 billion of investment commitment from China
China. Malaysia. ASIA.
China is the second largest economy in the world today. The United States is top. However, China is in Asia. The United States just wants to be in Asia. It’s very far away. According to my friend, google.com it’s over 9000 miles away. In other words, as a trading partner, one is in the same region. So, if I am a Prime Minister of a country within Asia, I do think China is one of the countries I visit first, if not the first. Below would be the preliminary result from the visit and the number is indeed very encouraging.

Article in nst.com.my Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim said, “We have achieved the commitment of RM170 billion in investments from China. I must thank the investors for giving their cooperation and for giving us confidence.”
He added, “This is historic. It is good for Malaysia and the future.” This was announced at the Malaysia-China Business Forum, which was attended by some 1,000 business leaders from both countries, here today.
China remained Malaysia’s largest trading partner for 14 consecutive years, with total trade of US$110.6 billion (RM488 billion) in 2022.
On the investment front, China was the biggest foreign direct investor in Malaysia last year, with investments amounting to US$12.5 billion (RM55.16 billion).
According to statistics from the Foreign Affairs Ministry, total exports to China increased 9.4 per cent to RM210.62 billion (US$47.84 billion) in 2022, while total imports from China stood at RM276.50 billion (US$62.78 billion) in the same year, or an increase of 20.7 per cent compared to the previous year. China. Malaysia. ASEAN.
ASEAN has 634 million population. China has 1.4 billion. Malaysia? Okay, we have just 34 million. This is why Malaysia need to ensure our two largest trading country and block would be China and ASEAN. Combined, we are over 2 billion strong yeah. There are a lot more to do together. The only issue is some countries are not the best friends with one another. Well, let’s see how China can really be a big brother to unite us all. I look forward to a day when we speak as one, just like the European Union (the EU) which is a very powerful bloc.
Happy understanding.
