More international travelers coming to Malaysia. 8 countries. 10 airlines. 14,000 passengers per week.
If they fly in, we can also fly out, right?
When airlines fly into Malaysia, they need to fly back and it’s not possible to fly in a few hundred passengers, they wait here in Malaysia until all these few hundred passengers need to leave Malaysia. So, when they fly in, they would fly back and Malaysians do have the opportunity to fly to the other countries too. I am still wondering if there are going to be more promotional air fares for these flights too. Many destinations yeah. Do read the below for the latest report.
Article in themalaysianreserve.com “MALAYSIA will introduce 21 new international air routes from December through mid-January 2026 as it gears up for Visit Malaysia 2026.
Tourism, Arts and Culture Minister Datuk Seri Tiong King Sing said the additions cover 16 scheduled services and five charter flights operated by 10 airlines, linking Malaysia with Asean, East Asia, Uzbekistan and Sri Lanka.
“Of the 16 scheduled routes, 13 will start this month, while the rest will begin in January. These routes will add 81 direct flights to Malaysia, with a maximum capacity of 13,936 passengers per week.
“As for the five charter flights, four will begin in December, while the other one will start in January,” he said in a statement.
He said the new services will span eight countries and 17 destinations, connecting nine airports in Malaysia — Kuala Lumpur, Subang (Selangor), Pulau Pinang, Johor Bahru, Kota Kinabalu, Tawau, Kuching, Ipoh and Langkawi.” Article in themalaysianreserve.com
14,000 per week (if they continue until end of the year) means up to 728,000 new visitors too
The above is based on capacity. It does not mean every plane will be full. Perhaps 80 percent is a good target. If it’s 80 percent, then 728,000 x 80 percent equals to 582,400. Over half a million extra is a very good number. Hopefully we will exceed our 2025 numbers by September of 2026. 🙂 We will see. It does seem that Malaysia is finally taking the rightful place as the place which is truly Asia for visitors.
I know, some will point out that Singapore is also truly Asia but it’s not the same. One place is not just truly Asia but also affordable Asia while another would have to aim at best value instead. So, if you are deciding, this is one important reason yeah; your budget.
Keep up the great work Tourism Malaysia.
