Let’s travel to Krung Thep Maha Nakhon. Where’s that?
Yes, from the name, it does seem that this is in Thailand. Nope, I do not find it hard to pronounce. I am a Malaysian and is used to all these versus that countries with just one language. I have been to Thailand many times and for this Krung Thep, I used to go there once every other month for work a few years back. Yes, the years before the arrival of Covid-19. Now, let’s read a bit first.
Article in freemalaysiatoday.com The Thai cabinet on Wednesday approved a change in the capital’s official name in English from Bangkok to Krung Thep Maha Nakhon. Bangkok or Krung Thep is okay lah
Bangkok is a name famous all other the world. It’s unlikely that visitors would ever change the word they use from Bangkok to Krung Thep too. However, if I were to take wefie and there’s a signboard saying Krung Thep, I do think everyone will want to take that photo and try to surprise some of their friends who may not know where is this Krung Thep place.
The delicious food, the Land of Smiles, the many sights and sound will not change too. Even the hospitality of Thai people will remain more famous than the debate of Bangkok versus Krung Thep. Happy changing the name my dear Thai friends. Yes, I will start to interchangeably use Bangkok and Krung Thep from today onwards too. I just wonder when is my next trip to Krung Thep.
