How much do judges earn in Malaysia? It’s going up by 30 percent starting 1st January 2026

Malaysian judges’ salary has been the same since 2015

Personally I think we have good judges here in Malaysia. The reason I say so is because the government of the day can lose in court and they can lose many times too. This is very similar to those countries where the people think highly of them. For example, Canada, Australia, UK. Their governments do lose in court battles too. This is unlike in some countries where the government has virtually won every legal case mounted against them or win every legal case they bring up against their opponents. Maybe if the government seldom loses, it’s because the government is already close to perfect?

Since judges in Malaysia are good, then should we pay them well?

Yes, we should. However, we have not given them any increments for the past 10 years. As for how much do they earn, it’s as below:

In my humble opinion, judges must be paid sufficiently so that they can focus on what they must do

Seriously, judges must be paid serious money if they are to do their job well and not to worry at all about their financial situation. You do agree, right? If they are not paid well enough, then the chances of someone trying to ‘help them’ with their financial situation will be higher. Are the judges in Malaysia paid well? I think they are paid okay. I am also okay if they are paid higher too. So, the above suggested 30 percent increase is perfectly fine for me too.

Yes, judges definitely need good salary to stay in proper homes

Judges should be able to afford to stay in gated, guarded and secured environment. Not sure how many high court judges are staying in some condos but I do think they need a proper landed home of a certain size. They should usually have a proper car unless of course they are very patriotic and drives a Proton X90 instead? X90 is the highest priced Proton anyone could buy in Malaysia currently. Proper car meant that it’s those Segment D cars for them to be driven by their driver. Based on property prices in Malaysia today, I have no doubt that the judges could afford a proper residence. This is good news for all of us.
