Happy news for teachers. Salary increase soon.

Happy news for teachers. Salary increase soon.

It is my personal wish that teachers in Malaysia are paid good salaries so that they can live a comfortable life. In order to be for them to be dedicated, they need to be fairly compensated. My late father and my mother are both educators. They have taught many amazing people whom until today still remember them and my mother continues to have former students who visit her and brings her out for a good meal and gifts too. Their dedication has certainly touched many. There are happy news for teachers as per the below article:

Article in nst.com.my Teachers will receive a salary increase under Phase 2 of the Public Service Remuneration System (SSPA), which will be credited on Thursday, said Education Minister Fadhlina Sidek.

The second phase entails a 15 per cent increase for staff in the support and management-professional groups, and a seven per cent rise for the Top Management Group.

“On Thursday, they (teachers) will enjoy a salary hike,” she said during an interview on Media Prima’s Hot FM radio station.

The increment will be calculated based on salaries as of Dec 31 last year. Article in nst.com.my

How much do teachers earn?

Meanwhile, I found this online about the salary of teachers. Their salary including allowances is RM3,480 per month and as they are promoted based on grades, their salary continue to inch upwards. When they retire at 60, their salary could rise up to RM16,160. Of course there would continue to be adjustments which meant that the salary do become higher because we need to ensure it could keep up with inflation.

What about teachers in other countries? Maybe we look at teachers in Hong Kong? My late father told me a long time ago when he went to Hong Kong University as a guest lecturer that the teachers in Hong Kong are paid way higher than Malaysia. However, their cost of living could also be very high too. I took the latest numbers and they are as below:

The below is the salary of Hong Kong teachers

Converted to ringgit, that’s around RM11,000 to RM15,100 per month. It’s a lot of money if it’s earned in Hong Kong and spent in Malaysia. However, it’s earned in Hong Kong. So, after deducting for typical rent of HK$5,200 per month…shown below.

Of course, if stay with parents, then the salary is healthy!

A typical breakfast set of a big bowl of paste with shredded ham and a cup of coffee is HK$ 40, maybe lesser, maybe slightly more depending on location. Eating at those franchise restaurants would also be almost the same price for lunch and dinner. Thus, HK$150 is enough for three meals if one does not order premium items but opt for a simple rice and meat instead. In other words, HK$4,500 or lower is sufficient for food, leaving another HK$16,500 or more for the rest. So, if one is staying with parents, the salary is indeed very healthy. Can even afford to travel to Malaysia every other month too.

Wishing all teachers the best and may teachers whether in Malaysia and Hong Kong continue to educate future engineers, lawyers, accountants, doctors and leaders.
