EV Malaysia latest news: More charging stations in Malaysia
Let’s look at charging station news because without sufficient charging stations, we cannot expect more buyers for Electric Vehicles. Who would dare to buy an EV when they could not find charging stations and they do not live on landed homes? Furthermore, the range anxiety is real because this is not like petrol cars where stations are always around the next corner in most towns and cities. Here’s that news about reasons why EV is still not a top choice for everyone.

Is it true that people are not buying simply because there is a lack of charging stations?
750 EV charging points just by this one brand; ChargeSini

It did not mention how much per kWh though.
As of Q1 2024, Malaysia already have increased EV charging stations by 12.5 percent

Double digit growth is good but our base remain very small. Not even 3,000 charging stations while our tiny neighbour Singapore has 3,600 stations.
The TARGET is still to have 10,000 charging points by 2025 (maybe it’s be end 2025?)

Frankly, 10,000 is too high for the target. However, let’s grow by double digits every quarter… That would be amazing.
Perak has 29 EV charging stations

Why so few you may ask. It really depends on the need as well. Not sure if there are that many buyers for EV who’s driving it around Ipoh today.
Tesla is very aggressive with its Tesla Supercharger stations

Tesla is not likely to be my choice but it’s great to see them being very aggressive with their supercharger stations. Great for the industry!
I do not understand why approval also need so long…

If we have any red tape at all, we better remove them quickly yeah. I always wonder why need red tape. just issue clear guidelines for people to follow and enforce them. Period.
Driving up to Genting in an EV? You are safe!

Okay, this is good. Going uphill certainly drains the battery faster too.
Chicken and egg situation lah
More charging stations first or more EVs first? Vendors for charging stations also need to make money lah. They cannot keep building and not enough people use these stations. At the same time, people cannot say they want to buy an EV only after we have reached the 10,000 charging station goal yeah. The 10,000 target is very highly unlikely to be achieved.
So, do you buy if you are intending to buy? Happy selecting from many models today. As for charging the EV, just plan ahead lah. I think it’s doable. Just need to note that the cheapest price for an EV is RM100,000. it does not interests me.
