Best time to visit South Korea maybe now. Why?

These days, it seems that Ringgit is doing well versus many currencies

Do take a look at the 12 months exchange rate between Ringgit and South Korean Won.

It was RM1 to 322.36 South Korean Won just 1 year ago. Today, it’s RM1 to 359.97 South Korean Won. In percentage terms, Ringgit has appreciated by 11.67 percent or the Korean Won has depreciated by 11.67 percent. If we assume the price of a bowl of noodle in South Korea stayed the same for the past 1 year, it meant that Malaysian travelers to Korea could eat extra bowl of noodle for every 10 bowls they paid for. Not a bad deal right.

In fact this is becoming a big issue in South Korea. Read on.

Article in nst.com.my. South Korea’s finance minister held an emergency meeting on Sunday to discuss recent trends in financial and foreign exchange markets as well as response measures.

Finance Minister Koo Yun-cheol presided over the meeting with senior officials from the country’s central bank, financial regulatory agencies, welfare ministry and trade ministry, his ministry said, but it did not provide any other details.

The won weakened for a fourth straight session on Friday to hit the lowest level since April 9 at 1,479.9 per dollar. Article in nst.com.my.

Is it truly affordable then to travel to South Korea?

Flights wise, we look at Busan, considered near enough to Kuala Lumpur. Taking the Vietnam Airlines, it’s less than RM1,000 for a return flight! Hmm… I think that’s a very good price.

Hotels wise, Busan for the same period and must be 3 star accommodation as minimum. We also look at just the highly rated places. By the way, the price can be very much lower than the below but the below image are all the properties which has already been rated high.

All are less than RM300 per night. We can see the rooms are either having subway access or just 300m from the beach or even right at the beachfront!

Time to take a break, maybe? The dates I have chosen are right after the school holidays

It’s always great to have a break. Some rest will help us be stronger for the days to come. Plus the fact that for now, the ringgit’s value is on our side too. So, at least when we spend we feel less painful? Japan it seems have to many international tourists. I think South Korea may just be another place awaiting for more people to discover too. Comparison wise.. Total International tourists to Japan is expected to be 40 million for 2025. Meanwhile for South Korea, it is expected to be 20 million. You can see the difference yeah. Time for us to also include South Korea into the list of places to visit which is ‘affordable’ too.

Happy understanding.
