Aggressive hiring and aggressively high salary may just mean property investment is not needed. Thoughts?
Loyalty to a company or company’s pledge to their people?
As much as employees are no longer having that loyalty to work for the same company from the day they started till the day they retire, employers are no longer offering employment till the day we retire too. One day it could be hiring and the next day it could be firing. From being treated as someone valuable to the team to someone who’s just an extra and thus some streamlining needs to happen and thus we are asked to leave and we need to now look for another job.
Hopefully during our stint, we have learnt good skills which could be used in some other companies or even the competitor of the company letting us go. Here’s one from Meta which is the owner of Facebook.
Article in nst.com.my. Facebook owner Meta is cutting 600 jobs in its artificial intelligence division in a move intended to streamline operations after an aggressive hiring spree, US media reported Wednesday.
The job cuts will not affect the TBD Lab, an operation established by Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg, according to reports in the Wall Street Journal, the New York Times and other publications.
The lab’s staffing was quickly grown through the poaching of top researchers with expensive pay packages from rivals like OpenAI and Apple.
Both newspapers quoted a memo from Chief AI Office Alexandr Wang that the job cuts mean “fewer conversations will be required to make a decision.” Article in nst.com.my.
Skills could be obsolete, thus keeping ourselves updated seems to be the key
I was at the INTI International University Advisory Board last week and we were discussing on some of the skills which the fresh graduates need to have. Most of it were on soft skills. What about hard skills then? Well, truth is, hard skills learnt on Year 1 could already be obsolete by Year 2 and by the time one graduates, they would have had to relearn many of the hard skills they learnt. This is why keeping updated is key to any potential future employment while getting hired or excelling at work would need soft skills such as communication capability and leadership skills too.
Join Toastmasters if you like to practice and be ready for the job market and the working world yeah. For Penang, can join Farlim Toastmasters Club (FB page here) or for Selangor, you may join Short and Sweet Toastmasters Club (FB page here) If we want to make mistakes while we improve and also get all the encouragement and evaluations, do not delay yeah. Soft skills need time to master versus just hard skills.
How much is Chief AI Offer Alexandr Wang’s pay package?
Some online information as follows: Alexandr Wang joined Meta in a US$14.3 billion deal. (Source: nbc.com) This is not his pay yeah. It’s a deal to purchase a stake in his company and for him to join Meta instead. However he is also owner of that company, so we know that he is now a multi-billionaire. The world is indeed a very different place today. With companies fighting for control of the AI world, anyone who’s well ahead of others will be offered packages which are totally out of this world too.
AI related jobs which will be in-trend?
Below are all the roles in demand today. I am just not too sure if these are still the same jobs which will be in demand when my children graduates in another 12 years time. We will just have to pivot accordingly by the time they need to decide on what would they love to study. It’s still best to let them decide as long as they are already mature enough.

If one is earning way above the market average…property investment may not be necessary
The reason why we need to force some to save via property investment is because we want to ensure their future is secure. However, if someone is earning like hundreds of thousands per year and well above everyone else, I think it’s perfectly fine that they just rent a place they like and just move when they got bored with the place. As long as they did save some parts of their income over that 30 years of working life or maybe 20 years, I think they will be doing just fine financially. As I said earlier, the world is really a changing place where earnings are concerned.
Happy learning.
