The EV we are talking about is BYD’s M6 MPEV. (their own term to describe MPV EV). It’s a 7-seater which meant that for a family of 5, there is enough space for luggages when the third row of seats are lowered for luggage space. It’s also an EV which meant that the petrol price fluctuations does not impact us. So, just maybe all the T15 (soon to be announced who are these people) may just want to buy such a car since petrol subsidy is no longer given to them starting middle of 2025.

The brand is BYD and it’s already a super famous brand because it’s neck to neck with Tesla in terms of total EVs sold. It used to be a battery manufacturer. Here are some of the reviews by some reviewers whom I love because they are quite direct and the comments are also most of the time to the right thing we want to hear.

Super quick overview: Two variants, the standard and the extended. Both variants come equipped with six airbags.

Colours we can choose from includes these four: Crystal White, Ink Stone Blue, Cosmos Black and Harbour Grey.

Price wise, Standard is RM109,800, while for the Extended variant, it’s an extra RM14,000. (Over 7 year loan, that’s extra RM2,000 per year or less than RM200 per month extra, should be worth it I guess)

Standard’s Range (NEDC) is 420km while Extended is 530km. Just remember to reduce this by 15-20 percent for a more conservative number since driving condition may vary tremendously. For the rest of the information, review videos as below:

Here’s an article about it: nst.com.my “Leveraging our deep understanding of the local market and Malaysian family needs, the introduction of the BYD M6 serves to bridge the gap between eco-conscious driving and the practical needs of larger families,” said SD Motors managing director for Southeast Asia Jeffrey Gan at the launch early this week.

“With the M6, we are not only offering a sustainable transport solution, but also redefining what families can expect from an electric vehicle in terms of space, versatility and advanced features,” Gan added.

Eagle Zhao, managing director of BYD Malaysia, said the M6 is designed specifically for family-oriented customers.

“It stands out as an electric MPV, delivering a unique driving experience and comfort that sets it apart from other MPVs.  This model comes equipped with advanced safety features, which are essential for a family vehicle, ensuring peace of mind during every journey,” Zhao added. Test Drive is for sure, let’s go

I have driven a Tesla 3 and I can safely say that the acceleration is immediate. There’s no lag at all and it’s pretty scary for the first time. So, definitely will have to go and test drive and see what’s the experience like for this BYD M6. It’s a very heavy car yeah, around 2,400kg. Do share your thoughts if you have already tested it.

Some people commented also that the design is not as modern as some recent models. I do not know what to say. Haha. It’s RM109k lah bro. Just buy and enjoy it with your family lah. There is always a trade-off. Plus the fact that there are also no other EV MPVs currently too. Happy deciding. Cheers.
