40 percent flights to Japan from China has been cancelled!
Hotel prices in Japan has dropped!
Everyone needs a holiday! Me too. Well, my brother-in-law told me a few days ago that the hotel prices in Japan has dropped. He is flying to Japan in January with my sister. He was telling me as he was booking his hotel rooms. I will also be flying to Nagoya during the same periods too but I have already fully booked all my hotels. Too bad… Then, I went online to read some news and I come across a piece of news which revealed the reason for the drop in hotel room. One country is cancelling 1,900 flights in December alone. Please do read on:
Article in straitstimes.com.sg Some 40 per cent of scheduled flights from China to Japan in December have been scrapped, according to Chinese state media, as the fallout for air travel and tourism from a deepening dispute between two of Asia’s largest economies grows.
The number of cancellations has now topped 1,900 flights, broadcaster China Central Television reported, citing unnamed online platforms.
Japanese cities Sapporo and Osaka – which rely heavily on tourism – saw the biggest cuts as a percentage of planned services, according to data from flight scheduling database AeroRoutes.
Chinese carriers are taking the lead in dialling back services – a blow for Japan, which counts the mainland as its biggest source of foreign visitors. Article in straitstimes.com.sg
Would this recover?
I think just let time slowly heal this. Just hope no party will continue to aggravate this situation. The more connectivity between these two giant economies, the better it is for both sides and also the whole region too. There is really no need for any animosity or even these spilling into more economic related issues in the near future too. For now, it’s very clear that the political fallout due to some comments are real and the beneficiaries would be other countries which will now be chosen by the Chinese travellers.
Malaysia is definitely one such potential destination since we also have a Visa-Free arrangement with China. Meanwhile the ones who suffer would be the businesses relying on tourism, including the hotel industry too as what my brother-in-law has shared with me. For now, if you have any intention to travel, then perhaps Japan has now become slightly more affordable too. Buy the flights and go. Below are some typical prices and flights in December, just before Christmas and returning just after the New Year.

Happy Traveling!
