10,000 passenger per hour means Johor Bahru better be ready!

I have been to Johor Bahru for so many times I have forgotten how many times. Once upon a time, I fly to JB every other week as I was also leading a team there. Have stayed in so many different hotels, went to view so many different properties, bought so many things from the Johor Premium Outlet (JPO) that until today I still think fondly of my time there. It’s also one place which is amazing for Singaporeans because Singaporeans get to visit a lot more places beyond just the tiny island or the same beach or the same malls over and over and over again.

Even I cannot visit 1 Utama all the time. Sometimes, I must go to MidValley, sometimes to Sunway Pyramid and sometimes to IOI City Mall just so that I get to travel a bit further and not just always in the same place. Maybe just me yeah. Maybe there are Singaporeans who prefer to just stay inside their country lah. Maybe. However, starting 2027 would be the Rapid Transit System (RTS) which can carry 10,000 passenger per hour per direction yeah. WOW!

Article in malaymail.com. With the Johor Baru-Singapore Rapid Transit System (RTS) Link due to be operational in 2027, several local observers said the city needs to support this with a comprehensive public transportation plan.

“A comprehensive public transportation system must start immediately to prepare for the additional influx of incoming passengers by 2027, as well as outgoing passengers for the entire south Johor.

“The existing situation is already considered bad and the public has not seen any major changes to the city’s current public transportation plans.”

An observer, Teh said the RTS Link will not benefit anyone if the city does not have an efficient means of public transportation to support it.

“As such we also need other modes of public transportation to ease Johor Baru’s growing traffic congestion woes as the present situation does not look promising. Do read here for the full article: Article in malaymail.com.

What can Johor Bahru do then?

Frankly, a lot lah. A more effective and efficient public bus transportation connecting all the passengers from Singapore will be amazing yeah. Let’s understand that majority of Singaporeans do not own their own car and if they do travel into Johor Bahru using the RTS, they will need to use public transport (if they are efficient) or they will have to use Grab.

Now imagine 80,000 people arriving into Johor Bahru and all calling for GRAB at the same time? Yea… Johoreans better be ready to pay a lot more when there are so many demand for GRAB but the drivers certainly cannot suddenly double or triple yeah. Fortunately there is still some time but time is running out yeah. It’s already just 4 months away from 2025. What a super fast 2024 thus far.

Yes, I still think JB is a great property market for the right kind of property. Not those super high priced ones lah. For those, the price has to come down so that new buyers can move in and change the whole situation. Else, nothing happens. When nothing happens, it’s not so amazing for everyone.
