Do we have regulations for workers’ housing in Malaysia?
Source: immedis.com The Workers’ Minimum Standards of Housing and Amenities (Amendment) Act 2019 (Act 446), which extends to all employment sectors, providing housing and accommodation for workers, came into force on June 1, 2020. From September 1, it will be fully enforced.
What happens if an employer fails to comply?

If we have to treat people as if they are not people, then I would prefer this company to be treated equally too. This is why I think any proper worker housing is always welcomed. Here’s another one in Batu Kawan, Penang.
Article in malaymail.com MY EG Lodging (NC) Sdn Bhd, a subsidiary of MYEG Services Bhd, today signed a lease agreement with the Penang Development Corporation (PDC) to build a RM108 million foreign workers’ housing in Batu Kawan.
The workers’ village project, located at Batu Kawan Industrial Park 3 (BKIP3), is expected to house at least 8,000 foreign workers upon completion.
According to MYEG director Datuk Mohd Jimmy Wong Abdullah, the project is expected to complete by 2026.
“Along with this project, MYEG will offer other services such as application for work permits, provision of fully equipped facilities and amenities for the foreign workers including surau, sundry store and recreational areas,” he said in his speech at the signing ceremony at Jen Hotel here today.
He said all facilities will be in accordance with the standards set by the International Labour Organisation (ILO). Article in malaymail.com
Just make things right, treat people as people
Foreign workers who are working in Malaysia deserves to be treated like any other workers who are provided with proper accommodation. If the employers are unable to do this and they mentioned it’s due to the cost of operations, then they should not be allowed to continue their operations because they are actually not competitive versus the world. Employers like these should just go and do something which does not need for bad treatment to people yeah.
