New Thai Prime Minister – Paetongtarn Shinawatra

Did you know our neighbour has a new Prime Minister? No, not Singapore’s new Prime Minister Lawrence Wong who became the Singapore Prime Minister in May 2024. I am talking about Thailand’s newly minted Prime Minister, Paetongtarn Shinawatra. She was sworned in on Sunday (18th August 2024). Source: aljazeera.com

Article in malaymail.com. Paetongtarn Shinawatra is Thailand’s youngest Prime Minister at 37, and she takes office as the third Shinawatra to lead the country

Paetongtarn follows her father, Thaksin Shinawatra, and aunt, Yingluck Shinawatra, whose terms ended with military coups.

She was chosen to replace Srettha Thavisin and represents a shift towards youth and revitalisation within the Pheu Thai party.

In Thailand’s political scene, long dominated by strait-laced elderly men, Paetongtarn’s youth and energy stand out — her taste for vibrant designer clothes marking a striking contrast to the staid suits and uniforms of her rivals. Please do read more details here: Article in malaymail.com.

18-24 months lah, nothing can be achieved in a few months, really

I am someone who believes age is not a barrier as long as the person has the maturity. Experience really does depend on the extent of both width and depth and is NOT related to just the number of years. These days, skills based hiring is already taking away the need to hire only when the person has reached a certain number of years of experience like the days when I started working.

Of course, let’s not get too carried away that everyone above 35 is already mature or experienced enough yeah. So, did not put in extra effort and thus their number of years meant that they are still not as experienced as those with a higher number of years of experience. Now we have a 37 year old Prime Minister for Thailand. My personal take as someone who loves to travel to Thailand and wants them to succeed is that let’s watch the next 18-24 months.

Happy following.
