HSR KL – Bangkok? Let’s go for it too if we could

Flight tickets KL – Bangkok is more expensive than KL – SG

Of course, if I am a tourist, then it makes more financial sense to travel to Bangkok versus to Singapore due to the currency factor. Right after the flights, we need to think about accommodation. That’s where Bangkok is also more affordable too. The salaries of the hotel industry workers are paid in Baht while those working in Singapore are earning SGD. This is why hotels in Bangkok will definitely be cheaper than in Singapore. In other words, HSR KL – Bangkok will be popular if it does come true specifically for tourism. Let’s not go into the food for this article…

As usual, if this really starts to move in terms of happening, it will be most probably be later than 2030 by the time this happens even if indeed the two governments fast-track the discussion, negotiation and construction. Else, nothing is certain.

Info from google.com on 8th Jan 2024 as per below:

News in nst.com.my According to industry insiders, a route connecting KL and Bangkok will make it possible to link it to other regional HSR lines to form larger networks that will reach Laos and China.

“It would make sense if Thailand initiated the feasibility study and Malaysia could bring in China to provide the funding, construction, operations and larger volume of passengers from their region into KL and Bangkok,” the insiders said.

According to an insider, China seems to be the most likely option to act as an external supplier, tying the project into the Singapore-Kunming rail link, a bigger project that will connect China with a number of Asean members.

“In the long run, Malaysia may benefit from the plan for a KL-Bangkok HSR, although some may argue that it may not be economically feasible given that the distance between the two links is greater than that of KL to Singapore,” said the insider. Do read for more details here: News in nst.com.my

Just note that there is nothing official yeah

The article in New Straits Times quotes an insider. If we like to know if there’s any possibility for this to even move on to the initial discussion stage, we need to listen to what the Prime Ministers of either Thailand or Malaysia to know what is the government thinking. For now, just continue to fly to either country to enjoy what the country has to offer. High Speed Rail is still very far away, whether HSR KL – SG or even HSR KL – TH
