Durian tsunami!? Have you eaten the RM10 per kg Musang King yet?
Yes, I had eaten nice durians but not the RM10 per kg lah…
Take a look at the photos below.

I had my fix of durians in Kepong a few days ago with my in-laws. I had Musang King, Tekka (2 pieces), Sultan King and also Blackthorn the other day. The total for these 5 came to around RM240. My sister-in-law kept repeating that the price is just unbelievable. The very last time she had durian was many months ago at RM75 per kg for Musang King. So, if based on same price, she could only eat 2 medium sized Musang King.
By the way, there were Musang King at RM10 per kg (very small, Grade C), at RM20 per kg and also the RM28 per kg. When I asked the vendor what’s the difference between the RM20 per kg and the RM28 per kg, he said, just buy Rm28 per kg. The flesh is by far more. I think he knows his stuff. That RM28 per kg is really value for money! Haha. Okay, since this is Malaysia, what about Singapore?
Article in malaymail.com “Durian sales in Singapore have surged after a bumper harvest of Musang King in Malaysia pushed prices to record lows.
Vendors told The Straits Times they cut prices of the premium variety, also known as Mao Shan Wang, which is prized for its blend of bitter and sweet flavours.
“This is the lowest price since 2018,” said Zen Ho, owner of Durian Empire, who has been selling Musang King for between S$11 and S$24 (RM34 and RM75) per kilogramme since November, compared with the usual S$20 to S$32 range.
He said the drop in Musang King prices has also affected other durian varieties, adding that sales are up about 20 per cent compared with previous years.” Article in malaymail.com
When the price is cheap, cheap and cheap, just aim for the highest grade possible
I am not sure about how everyone chooses but as I am going to be 49 this year, I need to switch from quantity of durians to quality of durians. Briefly, it meant to eat less as my body cannot take too much of sugar… Durian Buffet is a no-no. I just want to eat the brands I like; Tekka. So, since the prices this time round is much more affordable than usual, of course we should aim to pay the same we could pay for lesser varieties and eat the better ones instead. Chances are there’s a possibility we may not enjoy this kind of pricing in the next season.
What’s the difference in price like?
Unless we eat like 100kg per season, else, the difference can still be acceptable lah. If we eat 10kg all by ourselves (that’s a lot), and the price difference is RM30 per kg, then per season we will lose RM300. not a lot lah. However, it does feel good when we are able to enjoy the King of Durian without sweating too much about the kg which we have to pay for.
Happy enjoying but still, health is important.
