Did you know? People are traveling 8,000km to Langkawi island.

Would you fly 8,000km to go your holiday destination? Well, if the destination is somewhere I really love to go, the answer is still a yes. I just read that Langkawi has started to receive tourists from Poland. I quickly checked the distance between Poland and Langkawi and wow, it’s over 8,000km, almost 9,000km. I think the journey will take easily 15 hours? I have no idea, the article did not say. Since they come, I welcome lah.

When more people are flying in, they will spend on accommodation, food, entrance tickets to attractions and more. If the number gets big, then more people could also think about renting out their place as homestay too. For now, the number just from these charter flights from Poland to Langkawi is still small. Read on for more details.

How’s the frequency of flights?

How frequently would these direct flights from Poland to Langkawi, Malaysia? It’s around one flight every other week based on rough calculation. Anyway, the tourists could not have flown over 8,000km just to be here for a few days right?

The Article in nst.com.my says, “With various initiatives in place, including 22 direct flights from Poland to Langkawi from today until March next year, arrivals are expected to increase.”

How long would these tourists be staying for?

Article in nst.com.my says, “Itaka informed us that some tourists intend to stay for more than a week, with some planning up to two weeks to explore more tourism offerings in the country.”

I also checked. “A visa is NOT required for Polish passport holders visiting Malaysia for a short-term stay: 90 days.” (source: embassies.net)

Where would they be staying then?

I went to Itaka’s website and below are the holidays they are staying. Source: https://www.itaka.pl/en/destinations/malesia/langkawi.html

As at today (28th October 2024), the lowest prices package is this:

802 Pounds for a 7 day vacation is roughly RM4,500. This includes flights since just hotel alone cannot be so much money. So, I guess it’s pretty okay / affordable? The price is per pax and one room will have 2 pax.

Meanwhile for those with more money to spend, the hotel with the highest price in the page is:

How many tourists visited Langkawi in 2024?

Langkawi does have its fair share of controversies but for now, as at the 3rd quarter of 2024, Langkawi has welcomed over 2.1 million tourists. Article in nst.com.my “Langkawi recorded 2.1 million tourist arrivals up to the third quarter, marking a positive growth trend for the island’s tourism sector.

Langkawi Development Authority (Lada) chief executive officer Datuk Haslina Abdul Hamid said, “Langkawi has welcomed 2.1 million domestic and international visitors from January to September, representing about 75 per cent of our target.”

What’s the typical flight price if we are to visit Langkawi from Kuala Lumpur?

Book earlier, if we fly via Firefly, it’s just around RM400 plus for a return flight. AirAsia is cheaper but we also need to calculate the cost of our taxi to go to KLIA versus only in Subang.

Vacation packages, usually hotel lah

I have not come across any vacation package where the participants are not staying in hotels but in homestay places instead. Have you? If you have please let me know. Based on the number of people and based on frequency of the flights, I think Langkawi hotels alone is more than enough to cater to them. There may not be a sudden rise in accommodation requests from the homestay. Perhaps one day when the number is really high, then things will be different.

Happy holidaying.
