Ready for another casino in ASEAN? Planning for a visit?

I have been to a number of casinos. Within Malaysia, I have been to the SkyCasino in Genting Highlands. When I was in Perth, I dropped by the Crown Casino Burswood in Perth. I have also been to the one in Resorts World Sentosa, the Baha Mar Casino in The Bahamas and even a casino in South Korea (during honeymoon) which obviously I could not remember its name anymore. I have won in all these casinos except the one in Perth. Okay, the total loss is higher but I have actually won some money in all the casinos listed here including the one in Genting Highland, Singapore, in the Bahamas and in South Korea too.

I may have another one to visit in the very near future when I go to Thailand.

Article in nst.com.my Thailand’s new government will move ahead with plans to introduce casinos after a public hearing showed strong support to create a big entertainment complex offering gambling, a senior official said on Thursday.

Casinos and most forms of gambling are illegal in Thailand but soccer betting and underground gaming activities and lotteries are rife, with vast sums of money changing hands.

Only some gambling is permitted, such as state-controlled horse races and on an official lottery.

The conclusion of a public hearing conducted online over a bill to establish a “mega entertainment complex” housing a casino showed 80 per cent of participants agreed with the plan, Deputy Finance Minister Julapun Amornvivat said. Do read the full article here: Article in nst.com.my

Why do governments allow casino(s)?

Casinos are usually part of a huge entertainment attraction to tourists. In this case, governments may want to attract rich customers or at least those who have money to spend into the local economy. How? Well, when they fly in to gamble… they also pay for the flights, the accommodation, the food, the travel around in the country and more. This is how the economy benefits when people fly in to spend their money earned in their home country at the destination country.

We have yet to include the family members who tag along for this trip. When the demand for all these goods and services go up, then it will create more job opportunities and when more people have money to spend, they will also spend it on the local economy too. Anyway, there are many other reasons including higher tax revenue, showing the country to be a progressive and prosperous versus conservative and struggling.

If you look around the world, casinos are usually located in richer and wealthier nations. I meant the legal ones yeah. So, all the best to Thailand. We have another casino in ASEAN in the near future.
